I was wrong. Somebody found the other to it in Congress.

But no actions on it have been taken in 2 years.

I thought my head would explode!

Edit - Well, 2 years ago most Dems had their heads up their @sses so... I'd be interested to know how they currently feel about this issue.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/C?r107:./temp/~r107cy25UK

Mr. HOLLINGS. Mr. President, I rise along with Senators Stevens, Inouye, Breaux, Nelson, and FEINSTEIN to introduce the Consumer Broadband and Digital Television Promotion Act of 2002, legislation that will promote broadband and the digital television transition by securing content on the Internet and over the Nation's airwaves.
....

Pursuant to the bill we introduce today, the standards, technologies, and encoding rule would work in the following manner. Digital content delivered over the Internet and over the broadcast airwaves would include instructions as to consumers' ability to copy available content and would prevent the illegal retransmission of that content over the Internet. Digital media devices such as televisions sets, cable boxes, and personal computers, would be manufactured to recognize and respond to those instructions to prevent illegal copying or redistribution.

.....

I ask unanimous consent that the text of the legislation, the Consumer Broadband and Digital Television Promotion Act, be printed in the RECORD.

There being no objection, the bill was ordered to be printed in the RECORD, as follows:

S. 2048

11. WE still need to keep on this. Here's why:
PolicWare Update to Filter Some Political Programming, Web Sites
Susan Schmidt Washington Post Staff Writer
Nov 19, 2006

Citing hard evidence that an increasing number of radio programs and Web sites are eroding national security by broadcasting "hate speech," the Bush administration will require makers of computers and entertainment systems to update PoliceWare(tm) softare to filter dangerous material.

"Cyberspace and the airwaves are the new battlegrounds for protecting the homeland," said Cybersecurity Czar Eugene Scalia. "These new measures will play a major role in keeping our computer networks, and our children, safe from harm."

There's a perfect storm of cash and influence behind this--Dem Hollywood money, Coutry club republican businass interests, and wingnuts who want the crack in the door to censor. WHEN this comes up for a vote, it'll pass with 80-90 percent.
