Did this bother anyone else?
I was in a fast food place today when * gave his speech today in Hershey, PA, where he was pushing Patriot Acts I and II. I tried to ignore it, but this caught my ear:

The reason I bring up Pat -- and I want to thank his mom and dad for being here, by the way, and two brothers who happen to be volunteer firemen -- the reason I bring him up is because I want our citizens to understand that if you really want to help America, take time out of your life and help save a soul.

I've probably become oversensitive to *'s efforts to tear down the wall between church & state, but this seemed over the top even for *. Especially when he followed it with this: We're a compassionate, decent nation, a nation of people who are willing to love their neighbor just like they'd like to be loved themselves.

If * gets elected I am worried we're going to become a theocracy.

2. Hey -- I didn't know that you were the last liberal in P.S.
I love P.S. and thought it was still a good liberal environment. O.K., what has happened that I don't know about?

6. One thing that really shook me
During that speech is Shit For Brains mentioned Dick Winters was there with him. For those that don't know, Dick Winters was a real life person from the Stephen Ambrose book "Band of Brothers" which became a brilliant HBO series.

Anyhow, I read both the book and watched the show and Winters was someone who struck me as an incredibly honorable man.I really became fascinated by this guy. Then I hear SFB mention he's there with him and had been on Air Force Once and I start thinking about how this man who I admired so much, apparently admires one of them most evil men on the planet. Heartbreaking.

7. Overreacting
Look, whatever *'s obvious faults, there's nothing wrong with a politician or elected official being religious and talking about their religiousness. Worrying about a theocracy being imposed is just paranoid. Now, worrying about religious influences is a bit more justified, for example, with the abortion debate or gay marriages, but even still, it's not as if the pro-life or anti-gay marriage platforms are wholely religious.

(I had some other stuff to say, but got sidetracked and now I've lost it, so this post doesn't really say all it was meant to say.)
