One reason why the WH is not slamming the Woodward book
It's because they are trying to use reverse pshyc...but the real reason is that Wooward has tapes and the tapes contain much worse information that the WH asked to NOT be included in the book. If they slam Woodward too much, they know what might happen.

1. Nope
Woodward has been a bush cheerleader. I doubt there are too many negatives about the Chimp in the book

8. I agree - Woodward became a GOP media whore years ago - and has
not changed.

A Rove backfire to kill 2 items that would have been useful in the fall was delivered on schedule and as edited at the Whitehouse.

So the treason of misappropriation of funds will be old news (we did not charge Reagan when he committed the same treason in Iran/Contra - we must leave Bush43 alone), and the treason of the use of foreign govs to affect elections via oil price drop before elections is again something we did not chase Reagan on when he had Bush41 fly to Paris to get the agreement with Iran that Carter would not have a hostage release before the 80 election.

And since our media's logic is so deep that the above works for them, Rove accomplishes the desired backfire protection for the 04 election.

2. I also think it is because....
Woodward is for the most part a lap dog for Bush and he makes Bush look like he is in charge and competant so the WH is very happy with that.....

3. Exactly...
and I think Rove feels that the public is recognizing a pattern...
book release --> press coverage --> admin refute and discredit.

I think they are really hoping that the current strategy will cause it not to grow legs.

14. The title is so bold and romantic. Hitler would have loved it.
The trolls won't read the book anyway so they'll never know what's in it.

5. Good pt
Not really reverse psychology--just covering their ass.

Woodward has been playing his opinions of the remarks very close to his chest, and to the RW he is coming off more credible because of it.

6. Woodward pumped a few areas to trick the left into buying
the book. He is well aware that we're the market these days. In fact this doesn't sound very different from the first book, almost everything that has been reported is very old news or could be supposed from what is known.

Any book that portrays Chimp as involved or thoughtful is BS, there isn't any there there.

9. all the media focused on here in Seattle
was the God really thing. And of course, the word was that yes he did speak to Bush and thats ok. It was the most disgusting thing, NOT ONE mention of election/oil fixing, or the treasonous act of showing battle plans to a foreign leader. Not even a mention! Clips of Woodward were played on the radio and TV, and they totally stuck to the god part and nothing else, end of story.

Last night i read a thread here about how Bush could commit murder on live tv and the right would spin it to his favor, and i am beginning to see how true that is. People will not vote against bush if the media will not even report the most basics of the truth.

18. I think not everybody
I bought the book at Costco yesterday, partly to support Costco. :)

Just the few pages I read are full of details that are most unflattering to Bushco.

The very fact that various administration people are denying they ever said such and such makes you know he's touched a nerve or two.

I think the reasons the White House hasn't gone full bore against Woodward is because that tactic backfired with Clarke/ Rice (Rice had to recant) but mostly because how many times can you destroy the character of your detractors without people finally catching on to your only weapon: character destruction.

13. The Woodward books seems to be damage control
There are issues there to be sure. But Woodward seems to be the most efficacious way of distributing the damage to take the sting off of it.

16. AM Radio says it is all lies! Woodward is a Lying Elite Gay Lover!
I was picking somebody up at the airport last night and spent 3 minutes on the am dial. I heard two commentators sliming the book - sorry don't know who they are. Both said Woodward is lying. One of them suggested through innuendo that Woodward is an elitist who supports GAY MARRIAGE!

19. I don't think so....
I got so discouraged watching CNN and Larry King last night. There were only 3 negatives in the book and they already had spun them positively for bush. Notice how its taken the focus off Clark's book which was much more damaging? Now its, did Powell know, did Franks spend money in the wrong place and did bush decide earlier and oh, did bush make a deal to lower gas prices just like Carter and Clinton did. Not really earthshaking news (especially as its being spun) unless the spending was illegal and the WH vetted the book(Woodward said) so it has no surprises. It makes bush look like a decisive leader. I'm not wasting my money on it.

Prince Bandar actually called in to Larry King last night to "discredit" Woodward.

21. I won't buy it either
I'll read all your reports. B-)

I bought Shadow and Brethern and was disappointed in both. Woodward states he likes to try to get to the personality of the subject but I didn't see that in either. A lot of Bill Clinton and affair stuff in Shadow if you all remember.Woodwrd was Live Online at Washinton Post at 1 pm. Below is transcript.
