Loving This Headline At BuzzFlash In A Depressed Sort Of Way !!!
According to Latest Poll,
Half of Americans are Drinking the Kool-Aid
and Still Approving of Bush.
63% Approve of His So-Called
"Campaign Against Terrorism."
The World Must Think That We
are a Nation of Lemmings.

Same WaPo\ABC Poll You guys have been talking about...

Article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/polls/vault/stories/trend041804.html

That was before the Woodward book, right? Hopefully the next poll will trend differently, but I ain't bettin the farm.

Ah... the soft bigotry of low expectations. Who'd a thunk it???

:puke:

1. They approve of fighting terrorism - don't you?
Now if the question asked, "Do you approve of THE WAY President is going about fighting terrorism?", the results would be very different.

Many people think that saying they disapprove is like saying that they approve of terrorism.

5. yep
This thing is still framed as either it is Bush or the teorrists. Average people support monkey because they feel that if monkey is removed, all that is left is the terrorist. It's that simple.

No matter how corrupt Bush is, or how bad a job he does, or how much he socks it to the middle class, he is still seen as better than a terrorist in your living room.

The fact that we haven't been hit in our country since 911 reinforces the simplicity of the Bush argument. That argument says, hey I might not be perfect, but I am the one between you and the teorrist. If I am removed, then only the whiners, complainers and critics, in other words, the terrorist lovers will be left. Oh yes, and the terrorists themselves of course.

Kerry is going to have to do a much better job in explaining why Bush is making terrorism worse. It's like trying to pry a teddy bear away from a child. Kerry has to convince average people that replacing Bush with himself is the way to fight terrorism. That replacing Bush with himself is the way to a better life.

2. People don't like to think
My husband asked me why Clinton's personal life caught on and there are all these scandals that Bush* is involved in and they aren't catching on. I told him that the thing with Clinton was easy to explain in every day language-- took one sentence to get what was being said. However, try explaining misappropriation of $700 million and busy people (looking for soundbytes) will turn you off after seven words.

6. Right on, and your eyes roll into your head when you say......
money is going to this or that. That is also why high gas hits so hard. Every one can understand that also. Same with the national debt.It does not seem to hurt your way of life so who cares. We live in sound bits and no one thinks of the over all picture.

3. Oh Please !!!
Look... I guess it's true that with Democracy, you get the government you deserve.

So I shouldn't be surprised that if over half our fellow citizens are moronic dolts, we should have a moronic dolt leading our country.

And it's not just that they don't bother to find out what is really going on, or do a little research into historical context; it's that they REFUSE to open their eyes and minds to the utter bullshit and lies that come from our current administration.

Almost everyone else on the planet can see what's going on now. And their opinion of Americans has most definitely plummeted in the last three years. Mine too!!!

"Those who give up a little freedom, for a little safety, deserve neither." - Benjamin Franklin

Looks like we're gettin what we deserve... all over the place!

:grr:

7. And enough of the people may not wish to keep it.
That is the scary part to me. It feels like this what herding cats must be like.

8. I don't know. The WaPo/ABC Poll typically rates him high, and still...
...he's at his lowest ever since his term started (within 1 point = sithin MOE = same). Ditto for highest disapproval.

This graphic on the Post site mirrors the one Pollkatz (http://www.pollkatz.homestead.com/files/pollkatzcontentpage.html) used to put up, which compiled all of bush's Approval numbers from every major poll (which unfortunately hasn't been updated this year). It shows the same thing: a steady, unavoidable, decline in popularity.

It's his destiny, even though his WashPost numbers at any given time are a notch above the average approval rating. I say 35%-40 by election time (averaged across all polls).

And I can prove that they are cute, hardworking creatures that can bite savagely when provoked. They are not at all like the stereotypical mindless mass -- that's a myth -- and if Americans ARE a bit more like lemmings really are, there's hope.
