Does Bush's walk bother anyone else?
One aspect of dear leader that makes me cringe is the way the guy walks. Do you notice that whenever he is doing a photo op with another leader down on the ranch or on the white house grounds, and the two leaders are walking toward the camera, Bush has this bizarre, exaggerated swagger? His chest is puffed out, and legs bulge outward, and worst of all his arms are held far from his body like a body builder.

This looks pathetic when you think of him as not really being the guy in power but a mincing puppet of more grown up cabinet members. It also looks ridiculous next to more graceful leaders. The contrast with Vicente Fox is always painful. Whatever Fox's policies, he is a big, graceful guy with a kind of natural charisma and the unforced leadership look of a Latin American hacendado or jefe. He doesn't exaggerate his walk or posture.

Next to him dear leader always looks like a puffed up little rooster. It annoys the crap out of me!

85. The painful pResidential piriformis deep within Bush's buttocks
“Did anyone ever work on your butt?” asked Kincaid. Once again, the president said no. But he was willing to give it a try.
However, when Kincaid started going deeper in an effort to release the stopped-up energy, working from the belly of the muscle to the place where the tendons are attached to the bone — ordinarily, Kincaid uses his elbow to get at the deep muscles — the president said, “Not this time.”
After an hour and 15 minutes, the massage was over, but Kincaid had one more thing to address: the president’s posture. His shoulders hunched forward.
Kincaid showed the president a stretch for his chest — something he could do lying on the floor — to improve his posture. The president said he’d practice it. Although, of course, Kincaid didn’t say so, it also might unblock his heart center, his fourth chakra.
“It’s a doorway,” Kincaid says. “Of course he doesn’t know it yet, but I showed him a doorway.”
What will he do when he finds out?

7. I can't stand that puffed up stride of Bush's.
Edited on Tue Apr-20-04 03:22 PM by GumboYaYa
It exudes cockiness. Bush looks like he needs to rub it in to everyone around him that Bush is the top dog.

Contrast Bush's style with Clinton's easy gait and there is one more reason I long for Clinton. Clinton mastered the ability to look natural walking or standing in all situations. One thing I noticed about Clinton is that when he stands in front of a group of people he keeps his arms by his side and his hands out of his pockets. This is a professional look. It is difficult to stand this way for any length of time. If you are not comfortable inside your own skin you start to fidget and look for a place for your hands. Clinton never fidgeted and always looked entirely relaxed in front of people.

To me body language can be the most telling way a person communicates.

28. Like Dear Leader, like Great Leader...
The single dumbest bit of personal demeanor of Great Leader I -- other than vomitting all over the Prime Minister of Japan and slumping under the banquet table -- was during one of his debates with Clinton.

This was one of the greatest, if most subtle, moments of political theater in debate history, revealing truly what each candidate was like.

The candidates were seated uncomfortably on what looked like bar stools on a stage for a town hall style meeting. Instead of reporters asking questions, the audience members asked questions.

An African American woman toward the back of the audience was called on, and she began a somewhat rambling question about the economy. It was clearly directed, however, at Bush Sr. She said something like, is it possible for people who are so removed from everyday life to understand how hard the recession is for regular folks.

(Remember, Great Leader had recently shown his concern for the recession by staging a photo op in a Kmart and buying a pair of white socks. The photo op had gone horribly wrong, because Great Leader was completely baffled and flumoxed by the supermarket scanner, which he had never seen before, because of course, he never did his own shopping.)

So at this question, Great Leader glances down at his watch, like he was a busy executive worried about wasting time with peons and begins a really rambling insulting answer that was someting like: If you don't think a person of great means can emphathisize ... I think you're wrong ...

Clinton did not miss a beat. When it was his turn, he said to the questioner something like: Well, you tell me. What is it like? How are you getting along with the recession?

It was a magnificent performance by Clinton and I think the moment when he won the election.

55. HamdenRice, Welcome to DU!
The moment you mention in the debate was great and I think you could be right, showed how disconnected from reality Bush I was. Of course that year I had joined with the Perot movement and "United We Stand".
Perot's pie charts and sound bytes about NAFTA and the giant sucking sound had me hooked.

There was also a book out at the time that made me go with Perot, the name of the book was "America, What went Wrong" by Bartlett and Steele. (Asking the question, "what went wrong," two Pulitzer Prize-winning authors present a sweeping critique of the last two decades of American history, concluding that short-sighted greed in business and government has undermined the American dream. Original.)

And yes, there must have been alot of "pent up strut anger"!

VERY MUCH FUN! Enjoy. Thank heavens we still all have a sense of humor along with our rage.

19. I have noticed that simian strut since he stole the election
and was being photpgraphed. What really looks ridiculous is that he makes his palms face backwards--totally unnatural, and I am certain if we could see his ass, we would see it sticking up and out, as if it were being heisted by some puppet string--this of course makes his knees knockneed.

He is strutting like he thinks a cowboy struts. You know--palms backwards, elbows slightly away from the body as if he was ready to draw his six shooters in a shoot out at the OK corral

The guy is stupid, adolescent and everything he does is stupid and adolescent. This is a staged strut. HE thinks it makes him look tough with a "commanding presence"

Blegh

The front of their foot will slap the ground. If you see his feet while he's walking, check to see if the forefoot slaps the ground.

Notice they rarely allow you to see his feet.

50. Another thing is the way he treats whoever he's speaking with
as though he's the "big brother" who's showing them the ropes. I remember how he put his arm around Putin after a press conference and said something to the effect that he'd teach him how to handle these guys. And just the other day he patted Tony Blair on the arm at the end of their press conference and said, "Good job!" as though he was the one with the upper hand.

He even did it with Clinton!! Yeah, Clinton who towers over the "little man." I noticed it on TV coverage of the meeting that's between the outgoing prez and the incoming resident.

What an arse. The jerk couldn't shine Clinton's shoes.

105. The day that Shrub visited the World Trade Center
back in 2001, one of the networks, either ABC or NBC showed him disembarking from his helicopter in Hagerstown, MD, near Camp David and the underground bunker.

Shrub appeared at the door of the chopper, and attempted to salute. Unfortunately, his hand missed his head. He stumbled down the stairs, then lurched toward the camera. Someone off camera must have signaled to * to go off to the side, and Bush lurched to his right with a goofy grin on his face. He stumbled off camera with his head jutting forward, leading his body, and with a goofy grin on his face.

The announcer stammered that the pResident was obviously very fatigued. My friend immediately announced that Shrub was drunk. If he wasn't drunk, then something was very, very wrong with him.

What's even more horrible than the faux-cowboy tough guy swagger is seeing it in friggin' SLOW-MO every time one of his hideous ads comes on the air.

He must be proud of his ape walk, since it's featured in all of his advertising.

But it's even worse watching him SIT with his legs sprawled open, like we're all supposed to be in awe of that presidential package. He's so classless, so gross.

This seems to me like kind of a petty thing to focus on. Is the fact that John Kerry looks like Lurch from The Addams Family going to prevent you from voting for him?

I should hope not...

In the same way, we should offer legitimate criticism of Bush's policies and decisions; not nitpick over some minor attribute like this.

98. I'm trying to be fair.
I am not "sticking up for Bush". I have many issues with Bush's policies, how he dragged us into the war in Iraq, how he's decimated the economy, etc.

However, I have seen the political climate in this country become more and more hostile over the past months, and I can only see it getting worse. I decided when I joined this forum that I would not engage in personal attacks on Bush or anyone else. There are many on both sides who consider such things to be necessary; I consider them to be detrimental to civil debate.

I'm happy to challenge Bush on the issues, but I refuse to engage in discussions of this type. It may be pointless to point out their futility; it's just how I feel.

Frat Punks walk that way, easy to spot..easy to take on if they get fiesty in your face..

they can't dance either, so that adds to the tension of the walk, as well as not being able to get laid..

I'd say he's bowlegged from too many hours in the saddle except he's a total drugstore cowboy. Man owns a ranch in Texas but never rides horses.

In order to ride a horse you have to be more intelligent than the horse is. This appears to be a problem for the leader of the free world.

For anyone who hasn't seen the movie, it was made in the sixties and John Voight played this pathetic character who moved from a farm in Texas to New York City because he figured he'd make a good gigolo. He struts around in a cowboy outfit, but can't find any ladies that even want him. Bush looks just as delusional and pathetic.

104. Exactly. It's symptomatic of his whole nature...fakeness
- fake military service (you served during a WAR, trained on FIGHTER JETS, and you didn't fucking FIGHT? You show your goddam DENTAL RECORDS as some sort of proof of your patriotism?)

- fake ranch (tell us the long, long history of that one, Georgie)

- fake accent ( Georgie 1, Barb, Jeb, Neil...none of them speak with that fake Texas draaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwl)

- fake cowboy hat (ever seen a REAL cowboy, Georgie? Their hats get stained and dirty cuz they are BUSTING THEIR ASSES)

- fake cowboy (skeered of horses? You goddam pussy)

- fake concern (hey, go to a GI's funeral, you pig-molesting fuckstick)

etc. etc. etc.

So yes, his walk IS worthy of conversation here at DU, as it is an emblem of his total and complete fakery of everything in his life.
