Did anyone just see Hagel talking about the draft on CNN?
It sent chills down my spine. He was talking such bull**** about how good it would be for young people to serve for THEIR sakes. What propaganda! I've got a near draft age son and I find it unthinkable to send him.

:puke: AND :scared:

1. I think that Hagel is on our side.
I think he's doing this to call attention to the very real possibility that there will be a draft if Chimpy is allowed to continue.

I think that Hagel knows that most Americans will respond with horror. I think that's his plan.

Thank goodness he has the courage to speak the truth. Where the he!! are our Democratic senators and congresspeople? Where's Tom Daschle? Why aren't they talking about what Chimpy is doing to this country??!

5. I think he and McCain are closet Kerry supporters.
As Vietnam vets they have a certain bond.

10. Yuo forgot rangel
Look he is pointing a fact, right now we are loosing the allies in Iraq, that is half a division, guess what we do not have half a divisoon to spare.

now this has nothign to do wiht whether this disaster shoudl continue or not, but if we are to leave troops there, we need to get them from somewhere, and guess what? There is where the Draft comes in

These are the realities as they stand right now... and this is a statement that has nothing to do with my oposition to this damn war.

By the way, this was one of the consequences that many of us predicted with this disaster, we would need a draft. Do I like it? Nope, but whether we stay in Iraq or not, we just may due to the retention and recruitment numbers (and retention due to stop loss is creative accounting)

2. Yeah, it's good to die
It builds character, even more so if the cause is worthless.

3. It always goes like this.
First, someone brings up the subject and says it won't be considered. Then more and more people bring it up and say it probably won't be considered. The progression continues until whatever new policy is in place!

I'm sorry that you and your son face the oncoming storm - I suspect a draft will be enacted in less than a year.

4. The draft already exists
sending kids over 2-3 times to Iraq now with stop loss, and medical conditions that impair them, sending kids over with severe wounds, sending kids back with Post traumatic stress disorder
its already happened to us, sending over reservists and national guard , and then sending them back sick
If people continue to support this war, the draft is inevitable.
Bush=Draft 2005

Its that simple.
Maybe its what will wake the public up.
Nothing else seems to.

7. I heard about this on the radio this morning.....
He's trying to frame a draft as progressive, not sure if he's just trying to draw attention to the possibility and encourage debate about the direction we're headed, or if he really intends to do this.....

by the way, I believe Hagel (Nebraska, correct?) is one of the innovators in fixing elections through black-box voting, I seem to recall stories about irregularities with his election, regarding the exact same number of votes being cast for him in multiple districts in the state, but I could be thinking of someone else (why would he have to fix an election in Nebraska to begin with?)

8. Kerry apparently said "no draft", so why doesn't he do ads that
hint that "it's coming" under second Bush term?? That's something that wakes people up and it's far, far more truthful than the stupid crap Bush is sticking in attack ads on Kerry. I understand the game plan is for Kerry not to attack but let MoveOn,etc. do that work for him. I think that's one stupid decision. We got the troops rallied up in the primaries because the Dems were attacking. Why don't we ever learn??---and there are so many, many things to attack this bastard on.

9. The funny thing is, many "kids"...

...don't really understand what the draft is. I've seen discussions on the Internet by young people that belie a belief that they will somehow be able to negotiate if/when/where they go if the draft is inacted. For example, some of them have said that if they're drafted to go to Afghanistan, they would go. However, if they are drafted to go to Iraq, they wouldn't.

Like they have a choice. I think so many young people are used to negotiating grades, rules, etc. etc., they really can't conceive of being FORCED to do something they don't want to. Maybe I'm wrong?? Anyone else have similar impressions?

11. yeah.....
I don't think many young adults of draft age can conceive of this, let's hope they (we?*) don't have to find out the hard way, although I'm sure children of the rich and well-connected would still be able to dodge any future draft, right Dubya?

*I'm in my mid/late twenties, not sure if I'm draft age, but I did lose most of my hearing a few years ago, so I'm not sure if I would be an acceptable fodder-unit.....

12. Draft - Heck No
Let the pigs driving the super gas suckers go. Or send the people that think their duty to their country ends when they slap that flag sticker on their bumper...
