Michael emailed me
he said he has eardrum problems from the mortars going off around him and the attack the other day on Abu Ghraib. He also said that yes, 22 people were killed and all Iraqis and he cant understand why Iraqi people have to die from the attacks on where hes standing.
He said "I will tell you about it when I get back"
I cant email him some things, I think the military reads his mail
I cant tell him about some of what I know, I dont want to get him in trouble.
In the meantime, at least I know hes alive.
he said they call the soldiers donkey americans
I know what that means
same donkey, different blanket is a saying among Iraqi people
they see the US soldiers as no different then Saddam Hussein now.

bring the troops home now

4. I'm glad you heard from him....
I was thinking about him after hearing about the attacks on the prisons. I'm thrilled he's OK.

6. well he also said
"the news should tone it down, " which means he doesnt want us to worry..
I emailed him back and told him
"I always know whats going on Michael..I watch for breaking news from Iraq, and I always know exactly whats happening there because I refuse to live in denial...so yes, I worry and I want you to email me as much as you can, and I want you to tell me how you are handling this psychologically, and I want to know if you have made some good friends who can help you thru this"
I guess he wishes we didnt know what was going on.
But we do, we dont believe in living in denial.

8. Hes 21. I dont think he has access to other news outlets
the only thing the military will show them is Fox news. I wonder every day what they are doing to his brain and his psyche.
I hope he comes home sane.

9. Mari, I'm glad you heard from Michael, even though
his emails must make you sad because he isn't home yet. I'll work extra hard this week in his name to help stop this illegal invasion and bring our troops home.

12. Actually
The donkey analogy in Iraq is akin to what we think of as being chicken and/or a sorrowful beast of burden. For example, Iraqis called Saddam a donkey when he was in hiding for being the chickenshit that he is.
