How can we keep Nader off of swing state ballots through legal means? |
|
I don't want to see Nader get on the ballots in swing states, but I don't want it to be done through Draconian means. THere there legal means that can be used to keep Nader off the ballots in swing states?

1. Don't sign the petition. |
|
I don't think he'll be much of a factor, and whether or not he's on the ballot...I think anyone that's unwise enough to vote for him will write him in.

3. Don't sign petitions and write letters to Secretaries of State |
|
Write Secretaries letters urging them to interpret the signature laws as rigidly as possible. In short urge them to be real hard asses when counting those signatures. Democratic secretaries would likely be sympathetic.

Convince Kerry to promise political reforms which would actually allow third parties to get seats.

5. As much we may be afraid of Nader losing the Dems the election |
|
it is terrible to think of just leaving him off of ballots. Third parties have a right to run as well. If we intend to make this country more democratic then we need more parties than just dems and repubs. Everyone's views are not represented by the dems and repubs.
I don't like the thought of Nader stealing votes from Kerry either, but I dont think we should just leave him out of the election.

8. He should get on the ballot |
|
only if he can get enough signatures. I think that's fair, otherwise we'd have ballots with thousands of options for president. We shouldn't hinder him except by attempting to convert his followers, but I'm don't want him put on the ballot if his organization can't even put together a few thousand signatures.

6. Nader couldn't even get on the ballot in OREGON |
|
A few weeks ago, simply by getting 1,000 people together he could have placed on the ballot.
This was in a state where he won HUGE in 2000. Over 7%
Remember how he would fill areanas for his rallies in 2000?
I think people are just saying no thanks to Ralph this year.

If he meets the qualifications in the state, he's on the ballot.
The only legal way to make him ineffictive is to convince people not to vote for him.
There has been talk of him meeting with Kerry. I don't know if it's possible to get him over his ego trip, but perhaps an offer of a nice position in HHS or Environmental Policy might convince him to change his mind and ask people to vote for Kerry.
