FReeps feel tricked re: Kerry's military records
The Kerry campaign dangled the bait and the Republicans swallowed. The release of his records in this way was planned all along. Why? Because all these years Kerry kind of avoided the war hero mantle and he had to find a way to focus the spotlight on him being a war hero and what better way than to trick the Republicans into bringing up his military record and then having that military record compared to Bush and Cheney's? Now it is released and Kerry to Joe-Blow-Six-Pack public is going to look like the original model for Rambo.

Let's hope the Republicans learn to campaign smarter.

That is a lot of good sh*t! Combat kills? Praise from commanding officers? Model record? "I consider the opportunity to serve in Vietnam an extremely important part of being in the armed forces and believe that my request is in the best interests of the Navy," Kerry wrote while Bush checked off the "I don't want to go to Vietnam box"? Look I know it is hard to admit it but this was a Republican blunder. I don't understand why the Republicans tripped up so badly over this and made it such an issue. It was best left ignored.

Kerry baited Bush on his record so he can reveal his records in such a dramatic style and they took the bait.

"You made my point for me! Kerry could not talk about and needed a pretext to talk about his kills in such a way as not to seem like boasting. So he tricked the Bush campaign to force Kerry's hand. So Rove made it easier for Kerry to get the story of his record out in a way which makes Kerry look humble."

Yes, indeed. A worse-than barf alert is warranted.

Now what? How to get the casual news reader to recognize it for what it is. How about a mass "letters-to-the-editor" campaign anywhere this or related articles surface?!

I'm up for it!

The inescapable truth is ... Kerry's a liberal war hero with 20 kills and Bush is a coward who has spent most of his time in office on vacation. No letter writing campaign can overcome that.

That always works well.

Even when they recognize their stupidity, they still plunge forward.

Dear Editor,

Kerry's tricking Republicans into bringing attention to his superb military record is just another indication of dishonest he is. It's shameful the way the Democrats fool us into thinking he was trying to hide something when he really was trying to publicize his sterling record.

9. So they agree that Kerry is smarter than Bush?
...their theory of Kerry having obviously outsmarted Bush here.

I don't think it's true, though. I think Kerry's records were coming out anyway, he won the primary based on that, and kerry wasn't even going to begin to trumpet it so as not to appear self-stroking, so he would definitely not have a plan to do something sneaky that might tarnish that image.

The Republicans chose this moment to highlight it themselves, and I don't think it's at all a win for Kerry simply because the other side is ruthless, cynical and knows no bounds. They chose now for a reason, on purpose.

Watch what happens as Bush steps up the "war effort" going after the hidden WMD's in Syria or dropping a tactical nuke on a "terrorist stronghold", then produces Bin Laden who's been living in a virtual compound for the last three years along with a "discovered" cache of WMD's in Syria that was planted there a while back.

Let's not be naiive and believe that the other side was blindsided. We cannot forget their past actions. From my experience I would expect them to have a well planned ad campaign with real world events to support it. What we're seeing now is the first wave - look how much money they spend on this. It costs a lot to set up a campaign like this. From my experience of Bush's campaign strategies, this is an obvious plan to lower expectations and then rise up triumphantly like a Pheonix from the ashes, saviour of the world, farting in the faces of the nay-sayers, the evil dooers.

You know it's totally possible, so why wouldn't they do this? Why would they fall flat on their faces right now? This slick election team that literally stole the election from the people of the United States in full view and without any serious opposition, this team has just suddenly lots all its talent? I don't think so.

12. They've shot $50MM worth of blanks, to date.
They got the $, they have the campaign machine. Only thing they are missing is a President.

Really, this is the beginning of the end. Ed Gillespie made the records an issue....so I suspect that McCauliffe will be back asking about the rest of George's, too.

I really don't see where they are going to fund many more adventures in the ME. They shot the proverbial load in Iraq. We have a $500BB budget deficit and they need another $50BB in supplemental appropriations to maintain this self-inflicted disaster in Iraq. We still have 9/11 investigations, the Plame affair, a few more books, debates for Bush to shoot himself, and the economy continuing it's nose dive.

I'm even thinking that the popular sentiment will be so overwhelmingly anti-Bush by November, that BBV will not be a factor in this election.

18. they're spinnin'

Now they have some commander of his in Viet Nam saying one of his injuries was like a fingernail scratch.( I saw this on the Daily show..might be a joke :) ) But, they are trying to attack the third purple heart that I think is what got people out of completing the full year tour of duty. The bottom feeders are trying to make the fact that he was in one of the worst war zone areas into "See, he was a coward for getting out of Viet Nam with a fingernail scratch." These people are low. They can pound on Kerry all they want for other things, but the guy did go to war for his country AND into one of the most dangerous areas.

27. Saw Kerry speak in Atlanta and he spoke about his injuries
He had just been introduced by Max Cleland who had said stuff about his medals and his being injured in Nam. Kerry responded that his injuries were "minor." He said that he wasn't a hero - that it was people like Max Cleland who lost his legs and an arm who were the real heroes.

Kerry never said he suffered major injuries.

45. But in 'Nam (and now) the military was giving away Purpule Hearts in truck
loads. Made everything awash in bravery and valor and all that jazz. If Kerry had only gotten the Hearts I wouldn't have been so impressed, you CAN get those for serious injuries, but you also can for minor stuff, any combat-injury. However, Kerry also got the Bronze Star and Silver Star for bravery and intiative and all that jazz. So clearly he was fighting bravely, a lot, and getting injured, a bit...and enough to get him outta that hell hole.

20. Typical

They are now complaining about what Kerry is "doing to bush". Oh my God,JK is being unfair!

I think it is fucking great. Playing politics with the timing? Maybe, but so what. Playing politics is a huge part of getting elected.

Instead of complaining about what Kerry is "doing" to Bush, they ought to be examining why Kerry was able to do it. Plain and simple,it is Bush's utter lack of responsibility that is the cause of many of his woes. From his failure to his responsibility in the ANG to his 54 days of vacation in his first 233 in office prior to 9-11.This is just another case of his irresponsibility coming back to bite him in the ass.

So if the freepers truly belong to the "party of responsibility".I don't see how they could possibly support Bu$h and make excuses for him. But I am sure they will take a megadose of Oxyrush tomorrow and everything will look "right" to them again. Drugs can have that effect.

I was zotted for suggesting that they were "leaning into the punch" by attacking Kerry's military record. I told them that inviting scrutiny of Kerry's record was not a good idea...and would only end up highlighting his "ace in the hole."

The freepers went nuts and made the whole issue painfully complicated...most folks don't have time to absorb that drawn out logic...The freeper line is the typical hair splitting...great sources like: "a friend who served with somebody who knows Kerry."

People are thus left with the following impressions:

Kerry Volunteered.

Kerry requested service in VietNam.

Kerry was in VietNam.

Kerry was wounded in VietNam.

And that's the impression the avarage person is going get...the rest reeks of political wining and will be ignored.

Freepers fall for this trick everytime...just convince them that you are "holding back" or "hiding" something, and thier imaginations will go WILD!!!
