N.M. GOP punishes clerk for issuing marriage licenses
The Sandoval County, N.M., Republican Party's central committee, saying that county clerk Victoria Dunlap "has brought disgrace to the party," voted to censure her for issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples in February. "Other than assassination, all we can do is censure her," said committee chairman Richard Gibbs. About 20 Republicans attended Tuesday night's meeting, and all but one voted to censure Dunlap.

Dunlap was not in her office to take a call Wednesday from the Associated Press seeking comment.

The censure vote came after the party was unable to put together enough support for an attempted recall of Dunlap. A censure is largely symbolic, expressing disapproval of a member's actions. The vote came a month after Dunlap announced she intended to continue issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Her office had issued 66 marriage licenses to same-sex couples on February 20 before New Mexico attorney general Patsy Madrid's office advised that the licenses were invalid.

14. My response also - Yes he is only a county chair and everyone expects them
to be party hacks - but can he really get away with joking about murdering someone he disagrees with?

3. Where
Does your precious DLC stand on the rights of GLBTs to marry? Oddly enough, I cannot find a position on their web site.

6. who will you vote for?
Will you vote for kerry if he's the candidate? I will...there is way too much demo bashing going on in these web pages...I support gay rights and I support All Democratic candidates...becouse that is the best way to get there from here.

7. Haven't decided yet
But is strikes me as rather curious, respectfully, that you are all for gay rights and all for the DLC and yet seem (correct me if I'm wrong) willing to defend the DLC for being mute on an issue for which you (and I) advocate.

Just how do we "get there from here" if we don't hold our centers of power accountable?

8. becouse....
if we don't stick together the republicans will win again and gay rights will lose...is that such a hard concept to grasp? i don't accept your premise that democrats and republicans run the same kind of government.

11. What does the DLC have to do with this?
Or are you trying to throw Kerry into the mix here? If you are Why go to the DLC website, go to John Kerry's official website. I'll even be nice and give you a direct link to the GLBT section.

13. I still fail to see why you are talking about the DLC here?
Original article is about GOP censuring a fellow member about gay marriage license. Has the DLC done this? Is the DLC running for President? & before you answer remember I already gave you the link to John Kerry.

the original poster has been a strong defender of the DLC on this board. Just pointing out inconsistencies.

16. I am the original poster
I am a strong defender of DNC! I will admit I have no problems the DLC after all we are all Democrats. As with all the problems we have right now your fixation on the DLC is scary, to even bring them up when not being discussed is just a waste of space here.

17. Fixation?
Edited on Thu Apr-22-04 09:41 AM by HFishbine
I have a policy of ending a discussion when it turns into a personal attack (especially one that isn't even substantiated by reality). Too bad we couldn't continue to discuss the fact that a power center of the democratic party is non-supportive of an issue on which you and I both agree.
