Illinois governor says tornado was "act of God" and "has a purpose" |
|
Did anyone catch that on CNN a few minutes ago? I'm sure the families who lost loved ones, or had loved ones injured will be comforted by the fact that the tornado "has a purpose." What's up with this governor??!!
What a callous statement to make.

2. Apparently, fundamentalist Christians find these comments |
|
comforting. When my husband and I lost our 3rd child five years ago we heard similar remarks from our right wing Christian relatives. "It was God's will. God had a purpose." I guess some people are comforted by these words, but we were not.

3. I recall a Senator getting POed |
|
that natural disasters were refered to as Acts of God in insurance forms. Kept going off about how god only does good things and should not be blamed for bad things.

4. Its "purpose" was to even out temp. differences btw hot & cold air masses |
|
Not that meteorology ever occurs to guys like this, but as far as "purpose" is concerned, I think that's what tornadoes and thunderstorms are "supposed" to do.

6. Well, it definitely lived up to its "purpose". |

I'm sure that's what he meant. ;-)

5. Perhaps it was a legal thing...for insurance companies...? |
|
...stuff might only be covered if the claim is an "act of god"?

"It's all part of God's plan" has been the standard consolation ever since people started trying to reconcile an omnipotent God with a cruel world.
He's hardly breaking new ground here.
