John McCain boggles the mind
What is with this guy. He says great quotes like this. But why the hell are you going around endorsing Chimpy for?

McCain

"somebody around here has to start making some decisions.....we have 2 billion dollar bridges going to nowhere and pork shoved in everywhere and the first tax cut ever in time of war....we in congress should be ashamed of ourselves and I hope the American people recognize that when they vote this fall........."

1. I'm not sure I get it either.
Why is he stumping for the Shrub? Especially after what the Bush campaign did to him in the 2000 primaries? When is he going to defect?

4. Stumping
How much "stumping" is he really doing? I've heard him hammer Bush over and over in the past months, starting with that "spending like a drunken sailor" line.

Maybe he's SINO?

2. That quote is a non-brainer
The "bridges to nowhere" are getting some press, and McCain's just exploiting something that's obvious. Complaining about bridges that go nowhere, and pork in general, is like being against crime.

As if there's a crowd of people who want more crime and more bridges to nowhere.

Character isn't demonstrated by taking the easy and obvious routes. If you want to judge McCain's character, just look at who he endorsed. Instead of doing the right thing, he decided to maintain relations with a man that called him insane and called his adopted Asian daughter "black" so that he wouldn't lose the financial support of the RNC.

That's who McCain is. For enough money, he'll forget about how they treated his military service and his daughter.

Some character

3. My father used to like him, now thinks he's a complete loon....
I'd have to agree with my Dad on this one.

What kills me is the pure hatchet job that Bush's campaign pulled on McCain in the 2000 primaries, and the fact that McCain is now out stumping for him. I'm sorry -- but to turn around and embrace someone who not only attacked you politically, but PERSONALLY, just doesn't go too far to say much about someone IMHO.

6. I disagree.
McCain considers himself a real Pub. I've heard him say it hundreds of times. He therefore will stump for the Pub candidate out of loyalty. But you can see he's really no fan of GWB, and GWB is not fan of his either. I think it has something to do with the strong commitment in the Pub Party "never" to fught against the Party. Started with Reagan I think.

8. But It's Blind Loyalty
And if nothing else history has shown us what this kind of loyalty does.

Loyalty to a man and a party that sounds familiar, doesn't it?

7. more effective than Zell Miller
his criticism of Bush is much more credible than anything Zell might say about Kerry.

10. Absolutely! Look at what all the people think about Zell.
Dems HATE Zell, and even the Pubs don't trust him...they are just happy to have another vote. But when McCain makes accusations of the Admin or Shrub, the credibility is there. The Pubs hate him, but they believe him.

9. As a professional military officer
...from a military family, McCain is unable to regard any portion of a military budget as pork, nor could he regard war as porcine in nature.

Your bridge is pork for civilian slobs. Defense contractor programs are patriotic.

11. Not necessarily true about McCin being against all military.
Edited on Thu Apr-22-04 11:41 AM by napi21
A lot of the accusations made against him by BushCo were his votes against new equipment like carriers and planes. His explaination was that the votes were for equipment the Airforce & Navy didn't want or need, plus the pork add-ons were unacceptable!

Edit for sp.

13. One can nit pick over his record
Edited on Thu Apr-22-04 11:49 AM by teryang
His general bias as a naval aviator is what I have stated. Believe me, I know the environment he comes from and the type of man he is.

There are a lot of admirable things about John McCain but he has some major blindspots that are concommitant to his training, background and experience. He is not qualified to be President or Vice President and is a dangerous man because of those blindspots. His support for the war, the chimp and attack on civilian pork is little more than advocacy for the defense industry but he sees it as patriotism. He can't help himself, that is who he is.

12. This is an example of what
I truly despise about politics. Party loyalty can be at the expense of integrity. Winning an election can be at the expense of integrity. I've begun doing volunteer work for my local Democratic Congressman's re-election campaign, and I'm not sure I'm entirely comfortable with a lot of his stands, but he's better than the Republican alternatives out there, so I grit my teeth and do what I can.
