Told off a neighbor last night............
My son plays with this other kid in the neighborhood on occasion----his mom voted for Bush and I try to steer clear of discussing politics with her as she has spewed some pretty ignorant stuff in the past. So she calls me last night and the discussion turns to Iraq and she says, "I can't believe people don't realize Saddam hid all his weapons." I said, "No, he didn't, he never had them, it's such a mess over there, 68 people died there today." She said, "Good!" I said "You're sick! That's disgusting you would even say that----Don't ever call me again!" And I hung up the phone. This is the same person who goes to chuch and professes to be so Christian. My only regret was not throwing that in her face.

1. Welcome to DU
:hi: Some people give Christians a bad name, but please don't hold it against the rest of us. There are many that are still trying to uphold the teachings and attributes of Jesus Christ.

4. Good on you GeorgiaJess and Welcome
Wow and he didn't use his WMD against our troops either. And bush is a man of integrity and its okay to kill "those" people, and its fine and dandy for dumbass conservatives to strut forth with their macho posturing while never spending a day in a military uniform. Their spines only work in this country.

I can't believe somebody that claims to be Christian (or Jewish, Muslim, Hindi, etc) would ever be glad at the deaths of 68 people.

6. Thanks for speaking up, Georgiajess26.....
Too many of us have been silent too long. It's time some repukes had to start "watching what they say" like the Dems have been doing all these years in the face of media-supported liberal-hating.

I'm glad you did that!

:hi::toast::beer:And welcome to DU!:party::silly::pals:

7. I have a neighbor....
... also who continually baited me into talking about politics after I made it clear I did not agree with her.

Finally, I'd had enough. We had a 20-minute shoutfest and my wife was so mad at me and her she almost left.

After it was all over she insisted that we were still friends and all that politics stuff didn't change that. And we made a go of it - but the fact is I no longer want to be her friend - I have no respect for her any more.

I really would tell her, if I wanted the conflict, that people like her make me really fear for America. She's intelligent, well-meaning, and completely brainwashed by the media (that will pay a collective price someday, but that is another rant) to the point that she has no clue whatsoever what is happening. The only glimmer of hope I got was that during our shout fest she mentioned 2 or 3 times "you sound just like my sister!".

Listen to your sister and get you head out of the sand.

during electronic discussion regarding the draft;

"if the politians weren't so afraid of offending the rest of the world and would let are militay "just go kill some ASS" they could get Irag under control real quick"

I could not believe it. You can't reason with people that think like this. Notice what he calls the country of Iraq.

16. That's nonsense!
"if the politians weren't so afraid of offending the rest of the world and would let are militay "just go kill some ASS" they could get Irag under control real quick"

I wonder what these folks think the politicians have to do with it.

During Vietnam, there were atrocities committed at My Lai and elsewhere. As I recall, none of those involved were punished, or at least not with anything more than a slap on the wrist.

Now, we're hearing about atrocities going on in Iraq. I'd guess we'll hear even more in years to come if and when some of these troops get back home.

Once Congress gave the go-ahead, the generals manage the war. They've already been promised whatever they need... money, supplies, whatever. In fact, the military are doing whatever they want to do these days. I certainly don't see any one holding them back. I'm afraid it will come to the point where they will want to bomb the whole country, and frankly I don't see any one that would stand in their way.

If the military isn't going in and killing now, it's not because any politician is stopping them. The rest of the world is staying clear of what the US is doing, with the exception of the English, but this administration has made it quite clear that it feels it can afford to offend the rest of the world. What does Bush care if the Germans or the French don't like it? Apparently he doesn't care one bit.

People who imagine that our military is limited by opinions at home or opinions in other countries need to explain just what the heck they are talking about. These folks make no sense at all.

12. My Mom's similar experience
Mom lives in a suburb of Buffalo. As you may know the pResident was there the other day touting the Patriot act.
The local news covered his comments, but also spent a lot of time with protest coverage and related traffic tie-ups. They also made a lot of the Mayor of Buffalo deciding to sit out chimpy's little invitation-only speech.

He neighbor, a staunch Repug, came over for coffee the following AM, and said, "Isn't it terrible that the Mayor (technically not theirs,) embarassed us by not even going to see the President yesterday."

Mom responded that "he wasn't invited until 12 hours before the event, and probably found what the pResident had to say disingenuous at best...given the unfunded mandates that are killing Buffalo (Homeland security, no child left behind, etc.) Mayor Masiello is trying thebest he can to juggle things around just to keep basic services going."

She left with a "well!"

23. Thanks, Skittles. You're right. They are so 'pro-life.'
That they are busy killing off any social program that helps adoption, foster parents. Bush allocated some money -- but it is essentially a pittance compared to the % allocated in the past. And they are always around to feed, clothe, adopt children exposed to drugs (that they insisted come into the World), along with paying for their college educations (NOT!!!!!).

25. Fauxated bullshit
My folks watch Faux all the time thanks to my dad being the control freak in charge of the remote. Their entire 'news' comes from Faux. We've had extremely heated arguments, most of which I have to disprove their 'facts' which are really disinformation by Faux.

Lots of these neighbors have been 'bodysnatched' by Faux news. The really odd thing is they watch so often, that the ones at work and then the ones in our neighborhood talk about the same stupid meme of the day. I try to avoid them as much as possible because I cannot stand disinformation.

Good for you for standing up to that woman. Life is too short to put up with such nonsense.
