4. Wow... I think charges are being contemplated in Indiana as well (ES&S)
So while the Florida officials - where there have been documented problems - continue to assert that the machines are perfect - and no paper trail is needed... Other areas are moving to not just not use the machines but bring possible law suits.

Wonder if it gets so common place (eg the number of law suits being filed, etc.) if it will become a public relations nightmare in Florida if they do not take some kind of action?

5. Agreed, Florida will have to take action
I can see Florida being another nightmare in November regardless of whatever action they take.

Their elections office is still a complete mess left over from Harris' tenure.

7. interesting how the concerns have picked up enough
momentum - that things are starting to happen simultaneously. Not good for their side... But very good for democracy.

Hi proles! :hi:

8. There are also some problems with Diebold in Ohio
Don't expect electronic voting this November
http://www.newarkadvocate.com/news/stories/20040419/localnews/209535.html

The issue here is that the state is saying they may make it mandatory to have a paper receipt and if counties buy the machines now, they will get reimbursed for the cost, but will not get reimbursed for the cost of retrofitting the machines for paper verification. So the counties are leery of buying the machines.
