Governor outraged by Kerry comments on drilling off Florida
Governor outraged by Kerry comments on drilling off Florida
Associated Press

----
TALLAHASSEE, FL (AP) -- Governor Jeb Bush says he's outraged by comments from Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry about drilling for oil off the Florida coast.
Kerry is quoted as saying he supports oil drilling off Florida's coast in locations where companies have already been granted drilling permits.
The newspaper, the "Independent Florida Alligator," quotes Kerry as saying that America will be dependent on oil and gas for another 30 years and that will require some drilling.
Bush says that shows Kerry has failed to follow efforts by the federal and state government to purchase leases to prevent drilling.
Kornblau says, and we quote: "What he clearly was referring to yesterday, as anyone there will tell you, was his support for drilling in the western part of the gulf off of Alabama and Louisiana. Governor Bush took a simple, honest mistake by a college newspaper and took it to distort Senator Kerry's environmental record."

6. FYI
The Independent Florida Alligator is the school paper of the University of Florida in Gainesville.

It's probably the most liberal paper in the state.

Gov't selling oil drilling leases in eastern Gulf

By ALAN SAYRE
Associated Press

NEW ORLEANS -- In a sale that was limited under a compromise between the Bush administration and the president's brother, the federal government this week is selling petroleum drilling leases off Florida's Gulf Coast for the first time in more than a decade.

The Minerals Management Service will lease tracts for oil and gas exploration in a 1.5 million-acre area Wednesday.

That's a reduction from the 5.9 million acres that President Bush initially proposed.

After President Bush made his proposal, environmentalists and the president's brother, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, fought to block the drilling.

The original lease area came as close as 17 miles to Pensacola in Florida's Panhandle, raising concern about potential damage an oil spill could cause to the state's tourist beaches.

The area being offered on Wednesday is at least 100 miles from the beaches of Florida, Alabama and Mississippi, and the eastern edge is 285 miles from Tampa Bay.

7. Correction
http://alligator.org/

CORRECTION
Sen. John Kerry does not support drilling for oil off the coast of Florida. Because of ambiguous language at a speech Kerry gave in Tampa on Tuesday, the Alligator reported otherwise. Following is a statement from Kerry spokesman Mark Kornblau:
“John Kerry has consistently opposed drilling off the Florida coast. He opposes it today and will oppose it as President.” “John Kerry only supports drilling in the Western Gulf, off the coast of other states, where it is already taking place with the support of Democrats and Republicans alike.”

8. OUTRAGED! Outraged I tell you! The Party of False Outrage is getting
so Outraged over misquotes as long as it furthers their outrageous agenda.

Shouldn't their be some law that bans the brothers of presidential candidates from commenting on the campaign? And shouldn't their be a law that bans said brother from conspiring w his heavily made up sec of state from tampering with the election?
