I wonder, could DU produce a t.v. or radio ad?
i'm sure it's not an original idea, and i know that stuff's not cheap. maybe a small, cheap but effective one, or in print too.
local papers, cheaper venues that reach a lot of folks. just thinking. i'd volunteer my time, ain't got no dough.

is it a plausible or silly idea?

2. college radio stations, maybe?
Wait; they're supposed to be non partisan. Bad idea.

Ummmm... WAIT... I have an idea!

In addition to the biannual (?) fundraising drive, once a year the admins could tie that in with an "extra credit" 'Exposure Drive' option to get people to check out the site. Maybe something like those who get 10 or more people to register get mod status for a month? I don't know... maybe that's a bad idea for one reason or another.

Flyers lying on tables at fast-food places and malls. A piece of paper casually laid on the hood of a car on a windless day. Someone saying "democraticunderground.com" and only that to everyone waiting for the don't walk light to change. DU banners hidden in leftist library books and in the covers of the same at Border's, B. Dalton's, Waldenbooks, and so forth.

There's lots of ways to increase this site's visibility; we just need to do it.

But, but... risk getting kicked out of a store? How, how..... leftist! How radical!! /sarcasm

3. & when i say DU, i mean the members
i didn't mean to suggest that the creators of DU do something like this, i know they have their hands full and they ain't super rich like the g.o.p. crowd. i was thinking of volunteers and donations, but identify the product as DU. i hope i ain't stepping on any toes, just throwing out ideas out of desperation i think

5. the DU crew makes GREAT graphics
any of them would do. it could be hard hitting and dramatic, or toss much deserved ridicule at him. they tried that with an anti kerry ad featuring funny old black and white keystone kops type movies with goofy music. asinine.

frank n stein?....i don't know no frank n. stein.....

9. How about Randi's one she's pushing
of people dying and Bush sitting in the classroom. I believe what's-his-name did the Flash version of it. It was extremely powerful.

I have to admit - I'd certainly pitch in for an ad. We together must have more money that a few rich fucks.

Why would it not be plausible?

Anyway, I'm interested. The bus bench idea is good, too.

14. I figure Moveon.org's already got the handle on that
not to discourage anybody, I'm all for it.

I work in TV commercials, so I know how expensive and difficult it can be.

I would like, however, for people to just start showing George Bush talking.

All you have to do is show him talking, and at the end throw up a little tag like "this is the man who's leading the free world?" or something like that and you've got a perfect ad.

Getting it on the air is an entirely 'nuther story.

15. the focus groups alone would break us
inside joke :D

Of course, TV's not the only way to reach people. Lookit all the fuss over those Ford UK ads that were being considered for an e-mail micro-marketing campaign. They weren't even developed for broadcast but so many people know about them now.

I agree, maggrwaggr, Bush's own words would be powerful ammunition. And they can be distributed in Flash ads, in simple html e-mails, in banners on a myriad of websites, on stickers and a lot of other alternative media. Or in full-page newspaper ads that wouldn't cost a lot of money because the people we really need to reach aren't in big urban areas but in smaller towns with cheaper ad rates.

I'm going to start compiling his insane statements. If anyone knows any sources that have already been doing the same, give a holler. :hi:

I want to get the actual video. I'm not sure how to do that.

The daily show always has stuff, I wonder how they get it?

21. I found an MP3 source
Thanks to a link provided on another thread by DUer Scairp:

http://dubyaspeak.com/

They say that all their Bush quotes are verified and they provide the date and location each quote comes from, though not the name of the event.

Also heard an ad on AAR today for a book of GOP quotes from 1992 to the present called . I didn't catch the author's name and thought I could just Google the book, but I only found that there are a lot of books with those words in the title. However if you Google - "in their own words" conservative - you can find an awful lot of places that compile idiotic and/or frightening RW statements.

Obtaining audio and video clips means paying the news services or other sources that taped them for the rights to use them. Rates are probably different for journalistic vs. advertising usage, and may increase based on frequency and reach of the media schedule. There's a possibility they may refuse to supply footage etc. for any purposes that don't meet whatever standards-and-practices guidelines they may have in place. Dunno for sure, just guessing.

In addition, networks have the right to refuse to broadcast ads.

But AAR would run them!

16. What about ads for DU itself?
These could be in a low-cost form. If more like-minded people knew about DU, they might come here and be entertained, informed, and inspired to take action. I'd contribute to a fund, if others know how to create and place ads. I'd suggest making clear in any ad that DU, as a site on the frontier of the net, can be unruly and controversial, but entertaining and a place to find truth. I'd also make it clear that the site is a place where like-minded individuals can find support and encouragement, and is not open to conservatives.

18. well......
....during the Clinton wars, the freepers raised money to buy an ad in the Washington Post (or maybe it was the Times). It cost them more than $10,000.

I always thought it would be a good thing for Dems to just place small ads in their local papers, especially the alternative papers and shoppers. A $30 ad might influence some people at the local eyeball level. Very simple wording, with a URL at the bottom.
