Does anyone think that Bush has a clue?
Does anyone here at DU think that Bush truly understands what is going on in Iraq now and has a clue about the consequences of his decisions?

Yes, Woodward portrays Bush as someone who is in charge. But that is only based on what the WH told him in interviews....what else are they going to tell Woodward. And of course when the WH tells Woodward (or anyone for that matter) it must be true, right?

I just have this feeling that Bush does not even understand what the hell is going on in Iraq. He is clueless. Does he know that soldier after soldier in Iraq are dieing? Does he even care?

1. Oh, hell no
The man is as deep as a bird bath. How can someone so intellectually lazy understand the complexity of the middle east. Just because Condi tutored him for a few months means nothing. He spent the better part of his life just being a ...what a nothing really. An empty suit.

2. Oh, he has a clue
He just doesn't give a flying fuck about soldiers. He is playing a high stakes game, and his objective is nothing less than the establishment totalitarian regime here in the US. This really is about Empire. He's probably thinking "dynasty".

15. "Clue" is WAY beyond the insipid chimp
Candyland maybe...

seriously thought, according to John Dean's book, the insipid chimp doesn't DO policy. he's basically following his previous career as a male cheerleader. (but he doesn't write the cheers and has to learn them phonetically)

5. I used to think he only pretended to be that dumb to appeal to
the Texas Bubba vote, but now I think he is truly dumb.

He's so uninformed that it works in his favor. He has no doubts because he can't wrap his mind around any counter arguments--they don't even exist for him.

It gives him a wonderful sense of confidence.

7. I used to think he was dumber than a bag of rocks, too.
but, my husband pointed out that saw him once get snippity with a reporter and his little bubba facade slipped for a bit and he was coherent and articulate as any. he regained his composure and the bubba talk came back.

my husband thinks that this is all a big psyops game he is playing with the public. it lowers the degree of expectations we have on him. it's a clever disguise. i think he is shrewd and cunning enough to do it and carry it off successfully. that is partly how he gained favor with the public. :eyes:

11. I too have believed that's what's been going on...however
As the pressure increases his statements get more bizarre.

The Guardian ran a great psychological profile last year that I found through a link another DUer provided, and when I look at him in this light, and couple it with the strong possibility that he suffers from "dry drunk" syndrome, it leaves me wondering if the facade doesn't also hide some serious cognitive problems.

13. That article scares me...
If a man like that is running our country, I don't know if I want to live here anymore.

It just scares me that a person like that could have acsended to the position of Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. Anyone who could quite possibly be fueled by anger should not have an army at his beck and call.

14. he only sees what he wants to see
bush refuses to acknowledge any idea or fact outside of his limited realm of understanding: he has a myopic mindset that cannot be contradicted by fact.

As gov. of Texas, he was presented a report documenting that one in four kids in Texas was hungry. He simply refused to believe the report. I think he said he had not heard about hungry children in the state, so the report was false.

I also remember reading that he was known as a bigtime goofball governor: he would often run around with his pants unzipped, until someone remeinded him of the barn door.

17. A daily cocktail
Edited on Fri Apr-23-04 08:45 AM by PATRICK
of hypocrisy, power, past success, cynicism. idealism and with the usual justification of casualties as Napoleon would have put it. Namely, people die anyway. Other options would be worse so I am saving lives in the Big Picture. All deaths are for a worthy cause. I will limit American deaths. The Big Picture will elimate all war by eliminating all competition.

Napoleon limited actual French casualties with foreign levies until Waterloo decimated his veterans. This was part of Napoleon's self rehabilitation with the French people from his "martyrdom" retreat on St. Helena, that he saved French lives.

Recent interviews with deposed dictators show an absolute absence of remorse or sensitivity to the people's sufferings under their watch. That is the mentality of a champion tyrant, the "toughness" necessary to dare the abominable for greatness.

If he doesn't know, he pointedly doesn't care to know. Just like 911. He has more important things to worry about. Don't bother him. Afterwords don't expect tears, expect manipulation.
