Bush Hails His Environmental Record on Earth Day

By David Morgan

WELLS, Maine (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites), who withdrew from the Kyoto environment accord, sought in an Earth Day appearance on Thursday at a wetlands area near his family's Maine estate to counter critics who accuse him of trying to reverse decades of environmental progress.....

Bush administration officials defended the president's environmental record, citing proposed tax incentives for solar energy and hybrid-fuel vehicles. An official said the president had also tightened fuel efficiency standards for gas-guzzling SUVs from 20.7 mpg to 22.2 mpg .

"At least they can say that's more than the Democrats proposed under Clinton," said independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader (news - web sites).

Yeah, that's right Ralph. Ignore the dumping of Kyoto, the Clear Skies initiative, arsenic in the water, etc. Bush is an environmentalist!

1. It's because he is a
politician first and an environmentalist second. He's not going to win any votes from repugs so it's a smart move to attack Democrats (if you really don't care about the environment).

3. Is That True?
So what did the Democratic Party propose when Clinton was President?

4. NADER = LIAR
1. No difference between Democrats & Republicans.
2. I'll take more votes from Bush than Kerry.
3. Bush is a better environmentalist than Democrats.

This freak is pathetic.

5. Imagine this scenario and tell me what you would do
Nader is a millionaire of Lebanese descent and it would not surprise me that over that past decades he had donated money to some Arab charities. Since 9/11 these Arab charities have now been deemed terrorist fronts and those who have donated to them are guilty of supporting terrorists.

Now fast forward to the present and Ralph gets a visit from the FBI questioning him about the donations he made over the years to these groups.

The following day he gets a phone call from someone who suggests that all of this will go away if he just cooperates with the Bush crime family and makes another run for president to pull votes away from Kerry. Or he can expect a one way trip to Guantanamo and be charged as an illegal combatant.

In that situation what would you do?

Don

about the matter specifically at hand. Fuel standards were not raised under Clinton.

12. But was it true that the Democrats didn't propose higher fuel
standards? Or did Nader just conveniently forget that the Democrats did propose this and it was blocked by a Republican congress?

14. The Dems proposed higher fuel efficiency standards AND energy taxes
as well as a host of other environmental proposals. I posted a list above, but it doesn't include everything like higher energy efficiency for home appliance, less arsenic in the water, and others

13. I've said it before and I'll say it again....
big business writes checks to Dems and Repugs (only Repugs tend to get bigger checks.) my bet is that Kerry (when he's President :) won't raise CAFE standards either. It's just too risky--why else haven't these standards been raised in 25 years?

That said: Bush is totally gutting the EPA, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and more. I don't envision Kerry doing this, and while I wasn't working here during the Clinton years, my impression from those who were here is that it was better.

Personally, I think Nader needs to shut up. It's not all about you, Ralph!

15. Clinton only signed onto Kyoto at the last second knowing it would get
tossed by $hrub.

Check out Michael Moore's chapter on Bill in "Stupid White Men" for more on that.

16. Bush the environmentalist.
Now, I've heard it all. Didn't the career civil servants in the EPA (at least the ones who hadn't quit in disgust) dress in black and hold a wake for the environment last Halloween?
