Nader Could Take Pennsylvania from Kerry - New Poll Results
Pennsylvania is a must win state for Kerry. A new poll released this week by Quinnipiac University has the following results for Pennsylvania among registered voters:

Bush 45%
Kerry 39%
Nader 8%

1. these results have been discussed in the past couple of days
Edited on Fri Apr-23-04 10:22 AM by WI_DEM
and even without Nader, Bush leads Kerry in Pa. by four-points, 46-42
http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x10972.xml
also, in '00 Nader came nowhere close to 8% in Pa. it is doubtful he will do that in '04 especially since he isn't going to be the Green Party nominee either.

5. so Nadar has no real effect it seems
Every poll I've seen its a 50/50 Democrat/Republican split for Ralph Nadar. I wonder how far he will go with this effort? I wonder if the results will change over time?

I really don't support him as a candidate, but in the past I've thought he was a good guy in the roll as a consumer advocate.

However, in this case he seems to not be having a real effect. Message to Ralph: Drop out before you damage a potential victory for John Kerry.

3. Is he going to be on the ballot in PA?
I don't really see 8% of the voters voting write-in.

4. Sorry to be so pesimistic
but due to nader forces, and certain dems who cannot accept that Kerry won the nomination, the election's actually over. When bush wins this will be the last election I will vote in this country

8. I agree with both of you
It is going to be a sad state of affairs if Bush is reelected. It will quickly become "God save the world" rather than "God Bless America". :(

9. unfortunately...
if Bush* wins, it may be the last election anyone will be able to vote.

Nader is really pissing me off, but not as much as the pie-in-the-sky idiot idealists who are going to vote for him.

10. a vote for nader = a vote for bush
why don't these people see that? sure Nader has some interesting ideas and has done many good things in the area of consumer protection, etc., not to mention Kerry might not be the IDEAL dem candidate (that would be Clark), but whatever those people voting for Nader support I can almost guarantee they will have a better chance of coming to fruition under a Kerry administration than another * regime.....

15. PA requires 25,697 signatures by Aug 2 for ballot access
Edited on Fri Apr-23-04 10:37 AM by ann_coulter_is_a_man
whether he can get them or not is debatable

and of cources that's 25,697 so he realistically needs at least 30,000

16. how many did he need in OR?
Edited on Fri Apr-23-04 10:42 AM by fryguy
Like 2000 - and he couldn't get that....so what really are the chances?

On edit:

Oregon has two ways of getting on the ballot. One way is by getting 1000 signatures in a single meeting; the other is getting a total of 15000. He missed the first way but is going to try again....

18. the case with oregon
you have two options:
1. if you can get 1,000 in one night, you automatically get one. --he tried it, but only 700 people showed up

or

2. you can collect 15,306 valid ones by July 2nd

21. Kerry should get off the fence and stop trying to emulate Bu$h
on the subject of Iraq, job outsourcing, etc. He's got to show that he is different from him or people will be drawn to Nader who is very clear about how he differs from K and B.

22. Nader will not qualify in Virginia.
Edited on Fri Apr-23-04 11:04 AM by cmayer
What are the requirements for getting on the ballot in Pennsylvania? I have a different thread trying to get information on different states. There is no harm if he does not qualify. Here is my thread:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x1460478

On edit: I see the signature requirement for PA. That looks pretty steep to me. I doubt that Nader will be on the ballot in PA.

26. I answered you just now on your other thread, but
I'll post it here too. For the best place to find all the state requirements go to Ralph's website. It's there...on the drop down menu on the left side.

23. Ballot Requirements
Information on ballot requirements for each state:

http://newswire.indymedia.org/en/newswire/2004/02/800390.shtml

Nader's site says they need 23,000 signatures for PA, not 20,000 stated on the above website. Of course, you need an extra 30% to account for invalid signatures, non-registered voters, etc.

25. Some of this is a vote of protest
Voters often use polls as a way of voicing discontent, to send a message without really taking a stand. At this point, every Naderite knows that a vote for Nader only helps Bush, so either they subscribe to the revolutionary tactic of pushing it to the final limit or they will be more realistic when bush comes to shove. But we can only hope that Kerry is listening to their complaint.
