Norway's labour party to withdraw troops ASAP and give money to Arafat
My social democrat (Labour) party wants the Norwegian troops to leave Iraq ASAP in protest against President Bush's middle east policies, and instead give the funds that will be freed up to Yassir Arafat.

I don't like it.

What do you think?

Is the European left to fond of Arafat?

1. Yes, they are too fond of Arafat. But I like the first part.
Instead they should give the money to a legitimate Palestinian charity or to whatever UN fund goes to the Palestinian refugee camps.

2. Yes
while Israel is not doing anything to particularly help in the middle east, Arafat isn't the way to peace either. It's the lesser of two evils thinking that really screwed us americans over and give us our crappy candidates every four years.

6. Here it is.
They also state that they have been in contact with several EU leaders who share their view. BTW, Jagland is a former PM who is now the leader of the foreign affair comitte in parliment. In other words the main Labour spokesman on foreign affairs. He says that Bush serves only to feed fanaticism on all fronts.

12. Read the story..
Interesting.. I'm not so sure of giving money to Aragat though. I think they could find some better use for it. Then again Jagland has alwasy been pro-arafat.

17. I think his fondness for the oslo process is clouding his mind.
I think Norway (and other countries instead should provide money to responsible people there. I really like Bassem Eid. A guy like that surely could do a lot of good with some money.

Actually, I would love to see Bassem Eid get the Nobel peace prize.

Where are you from btw?

14. That claim is by Israel.
They certainly could be right but last year he was estimated by Forbes at $300M.

11. No.... I don't think that will happen in the forseable future.
Perhaps when the US deficits brings down the dollar and the US economy, then it will happen.

19. Way to go Norway!!!!
Anything that sticks it to Bush* and Sharon is fine with me.

Sure, giving the money to the PA is not the best use, but it's still OK. And it sends a huge message.

21. Well..
The Social Democrats aren't actually in power (nationally) in Norway, are they?

It's interesting, nonetheless. The German Social Democrats could never get away with that position, thank heavens. Arafat isn't primarily responsible for the current situation, but he is certainly a creep and an infringement on Palestianian democracy.
