This thing doesn't say editorial but it reads like campaign literature. Glad my tax dollars fund the free distribution of this filth.

If you are one of those misguided souls who still believes that trace amounts of various substances in the air and water are dangerous to your health, remember that it was during the first year of the Bush administration that the arsenic-in-drinking water standard (search) was made more stringent. President Bush has also, for the first time ever, proposed a plan for reducing mercury emissions from power plants (search). Carol Browner had eight years to do these things but didn't.

Sure, we can produce drinking water without virtually any arsenic, but why bear the costs if no one is being harmed by current arsenic levels in the first place? Yeah, we can reduce carbon dioxide emissions, but why risk harming our economy if we're not certain that humans are adversely impacting global climate? Rather than thoughtless, feel-good Earth Day celebrations ceaselessly calling for more burdensome command-and-control-type environmental regulations, a more rational approach is needed

3. This is journalism that America trusts? Fair and balanced?

If I can stop laughing long enough, I might actually throw up. This is just another example of the shoddy journalism and outright bias that Sux News exhibits every single day.

This article claims as a source a report with sponsoring co-publishers. One of those publishers is the American Enterprise Institute -- an ultra-conservative think-tank. These A-holes are singularly focused on pro-business interests (hence, the name) and clearly have an anti-environment bias. And how about the fact that the article itself is penned by a guy from the Cato Institute (another right-wing "policy" group). As is usually the case on Sux News, the report is passed along to the viewers without even a hint of qualification as to the sources.

It's also interesting to note that the Clinton-era EPA director is labelled a "tyrant" here, while Bush (the anti-environmental "President") is lauded for his common-sense approaches to environmental preservation. It's a complete fucking joke. The sad news is that much of the American public buys this steaming pile of crap as news. The joke's on us, folks.

6. Editorializing aside...,
none of these "facts" are true. They increased arsenic levels and mercury levels. NPR did a show about this just the other day.

7. I know , I heard it. How can people be so blind as to believe this stuff
Wouldn't the antagonistic patronizing tone clue you to the fact that this is not news but lying propoganda? Where's Edward R Murrow when we need him?

8. Wasn't it Clinton that lowered the allowed arsenic/mercury levels
as one of his last acts in office, then Bush reversed it?

I could swear that's what happened. The ambiguous "during the first year of the Bush administration" wording is deceptive.

10. Actually
It does say "Views" at the top of the page, but it really should state more clearly that it is an editorial.
