Weird Factoid of the Day
The DVD "Manufacturing Consent - Noam Chomsky and the Media" is number 689 at Amazon. Does anyone else think that's kinda weird?

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005Y726/qid=1082744760/sr=8-6/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i6_xgl74/104-5942216-0983968?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846

Not that I'm unhappy, I just started reading his stuff.....

1. Well, It's His Most Famous Book
and is probably used as a text in college classes on the media. But that is still pretty high considering how long ago it was written.

2. It's the DVD. It's competing with Friends and Kill Bill, etc.
Think of all the classic movies too (Citizen Kane, Casablanca)... Chomsky is outselling all but about 700!

5. Actually, The Fact That It's a DVD Narrows it Down a Lot
It doesn't have nearly as many to beat out. Maybe people are buying them as gifts.

The segment of people buying left-wing political DVDs probably has few alterntives, whereas for any other category there are hundreds of options.

It's still striking, though.

3. Unhappy? You shouldn't be
For such an old book, 689 is incredible. A relatively unknown facts is that once you get past the recent bestsellers, the difference between #300 and #689 is very small.

6. No difference
The same is true with DVD's

The best sellers are seperated by thousands of copies, but once you get lower down on the list, small differences can result in your dropping/rising past many slots.
