Poll question: Schwarzenegger a few months later
Californians, and others, what do you think overall so far of Governor Schwarzenegger?

1. I'm not a Californian but
I expected the Democratic legislators to give him a harder time but they seem to have been outplayed. He seems to be pretty well accepted there. Just how it looks from NY, hope I am wrong.

4. He's pretty well accepted.
Then again nothing has really gone wrong.

5. Well, that's typical politics
and the typical lack of Democratic backbone. He's polling pretty well, and the Democrats are afraid to take him on, much like the national Democrats during much of the Bush administration.

9. From what I’ve been able to see...
He’s doing a better job than the last Governor
Granted he’s still a RINO, but with what California has been through, almost anything would be an improvement. I mean he is actually getting the State’s Budget balanced! That’s almost a miracle.:wow:

10. Ummm... balanced?
How has he balanced the budget? I thought he had to issue a bunch of bonds in order to raise funds. Yes? No?

If so, it's not truly a balanced budget.

2. Worse...

and my expectations were pretty low. I didn't think he would start hacking away at crucial social programs as soon as he got into office. Blessed are the rich, the poor can move to Indiana.

3. I expected someone worse than Pete Wilson

He's been a little better than Pete Wilson so far. That's not saying much, but it could be worse. Pete Wilson was such a vile bastard.

6. About what I expected
a puppet of Kenny-Boy (thanks for the heads-up, Greg Palast!) and all-around empty head.
However, I didn't expect to see him at a Holocaust memorial.

7. I actually have some grudging respect for him
Edited on Fri Apr-23-04 02:38 PM by drumwolf
He's still pretty popular in California right now, and not only because of his movie-star celebrity status. He's already proven himself to be extremely politically savvy for someone who came into office with no political experience and hasn't been in office for very long.

I don't like a lot of the things he's doing, but I don't think he's any worse than any other Rethug governor would be. After all, he inherited a budget crisis and an intransigent GOP constituency breathing down his neck with absolutely zero tolerance for raising taxes in the slightest. To be honest, I've never disliked Arnold to quite the same extent as most of my fellow DU'ers, and I think that he's about as good as any GOP governor would be.

11. He is living proof
that the American dream exists. Even if I don't agree with his politics. The fact that he came here with nothing and built himself up to what he is today is really quite a story.

a&e does a really good "Biography" on him.

My cousin lives in San Mateo and even though she is Dem she actually really likes him, she says for once there are positive things getting done and its nice to not have negative news all over the place anymore.

8. He is what I expected.
Because I did not have high expectations.
