America, Love It or Leave It!
How come liberals never say that to conservatives? When liberals protest, conservatives try to shut them up with this phrase, but it really makes more sense in the other direction:

to religious fundamentalists: if you don't like the separation of church and state, LEAVE

to fans of the Patriot Act: if you don't like the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 14th amendments, LEAVE

to presidential-imperialists: if you don't like the separation of powers and the system of checks and balances, LEAVE

to censors: if you don't like the freedom of speech, LEAVE

to racists: if you are anti-immigration, LEAVE (and take your ancestors' remains with you)(unless you are Native American).

And finally,

to America First-ers: if you don't like living on the planet with other countries, LEAVE.

OK, obviously we don't say those things because we are not one-line idiots like they are, but man, we really should just throw it back at them some time.

1. LOL! Funny stuff and yet serious at the same time.
We don't tell them to leave because we acknowledge their right to be here.

11. Very Good
Very good points.

I do the same thing all the time to radical Republicans I encounter. I know the Declaration of Independence and Constitution very well. I ALWAYS throw citations from those two founding documents back in their face. THEY CANNOT STAND IT!!!

I think it is about time liberals appropriate some of the slogans of the right for our own use.

Here's an example. Remember when the Republicans used to say about Clinton "Would you want Bill Clinton or Bob Dole to babysit your daughter?"

How about this for 2004: "If your life depended on it, who would you rather be stuck in a foxhole with in an active combat zone? John Kerry, Silver Star winner and credited with killing 20 communist enemy, or George W. Bush, 'non-volunteer' and notorious binge drinker till age 40?

22. Bill Clinton of course!
He has no problem getting laid.

Dole, on the other hand, has erectile dysfunction, so he is more likely to sexually assault a female who cannot mock him (i.e., a child)

2. Well i know a couple people who used to say that
I was one of them. Not so sure anymore. I am getting really pissed lately over things and nothing is getting done about it. Even my uncle who is very old and very republican is pissed off. If you can make him mad, you are in trouble.

I tried to write my newspapers and email them but they dont even respond. Not even a no thanks go away message. I think people need to know what kind of war we are in now and noone seems to report it.

4. Welcome, DoverFrank
The worst thing that could happen to the Republican party is for Bush to get re-elected.

I'm surprised more of them aren't waking up to that.

30. Thanks
My friends just call me Frank, but DoverFrank works too. A little hometown pride never hurts.
I dont want to pretend that i know much about politics but i have been getting more interested in what is going on lately and i have some family over in iraq. Your right. I think its crap that noone will report what the war is really doing to people and why we are still there. I am damn frustrated lately and i dont know what to do to make people understand that families are being torn up by this.

5. Agree with all: unfortunately tens of millions of Americans need to leave
which sadly tells a lot about a lot of people who live in this country.

8. Actually
I have been doing just that for a while now.

My favorite instance recently was arguing with a fundy woman who was pushing the "Christian Nation" theocracy strawman. Her basis for argument was "My God, the US is becoming more like Sodom and Gomorrah every day, we have to do something" (wringing hands)

My comeback was : "What did God tell Lot and his family to do? Stay around and try to change things? No. He said GET OUT! "

<cue crickets>

10. Somebody posted this earlier today:
http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/ed_buckner/quotations.html

It is excellent.

The pilgrims may have been here to worship a punishing and merciless god, but the guys that actually mustered up the moxie to declare independence had other ideas.

14. i've been doing that lately
I'm sick of their child-like comments of that nature, and it is HILARIOUS when you tell someone that they hate America because they don't approve of lubruls, etc.

talk about heads exploding

the only way they will EVER see the utter ridiculousness of their arguments, is to turn them around and use those same words against them. Make THEM explain for a change!!!

Child-like connotes innocence and charm.

Childish means petulant, irrational and immature.

17. I have already started tgo say that to Busheviks
I also say

"If you hate America's Two Party System so much, why not go to Commie China. All you have to do is change the name 'Bush' to 'Ziang' and you can pick up right off where you left off in a One-Party Totalitarian State like you seem to want. You might have to change your basic economic philosophy, but I'm guessing you won't mind that if you can tell your Endless Lies to an Endlessly Gullible Population."

21. I think the fundamental difference between us is. . .
that Republicans want to change America into this narrow, hyper conservative country--even if it means turning the clock back 50 years or so. Democrats embrace the differences amongst her people and want to do more to make the country--as it is--with all of its diversities--into a better place for all Americans.

24. One-liners are important
In an argument, you don't have time for a lengthy reply. You need to get to the point....quickly...

It is equally true that conservatives don't like nuance or intellectual arguments. They seem to only understand slogans and one-liners.......

27. True - we need one-liners, plenty of them
The far right has convinced countless people with one-liners and catch phrases, because there is no real substance to what they can argue. We have substance, but too many people tune us out and don't listen to what we have to say because it would take more than a moment of their time. We need to hammer the quick facts (vacation Bush), witty retorts (no, YOU hate America because ___), and catch phrases (Outsource Bush!).

26. I wholeheartedly agree
I have been doing that some, and most definitely plan on doing that in the next debate I get into. As the wife of a veteran, I'm sick and tired of my patriotism being questioned.

Another to add:

To warmongers: why don't you support our troops?

It's high time we turned this around on them. THEY are the ones that hate America.

I do not know why they say that. If we were like those people we would be looking to see the Queen. I guess we should have made all the Royalist leave.

29. wow, great list!
i will try to hold onto this. i just have never seen things said quite so bluntly. thanks for the added perspective! it really makes a point, i can see why those on the right are so quick to use phrasing like this. what is funny is that they can really only say a couple of things like this, ie. "you don't support the president, leave...", "you don't support america, leave....". but your list is much more wide-raging and specific.
