Possible answer to why mass media helps Bush at every turn.
I keep seeing people ask, "why does the American media support Bush, even when he's wrong?"

This reminds me of something I learned in my National Politics course in college; that in order for a governing body to hold legitamcy in the eyes of others, it has to have atleast one of these four things:

- Mandate by the people
- Military force
- Rule by bloodline
- Mass propaganda

So if we look at it in this way - Bush didn't win the election in 2000 (scratch that one off). Bush cannot use the military to keep order (though it seems like they are trying to). As much as the Bush family would like to pretend that they are royalty (and should rule instead of leading), they're not.

So that only leaves mass propaganda - using the media to maintain a pretense of authority. That would explain the almost irrational hero-worship we see daily on CNN/Fox etc. This doesn't have to be a conspiracy btw. It could be a directed effort by just a few individuals & the rest just seem to go along with the status quo.

To me, this explains why the media seems to be in Bush's pocket - it is all they have to prop up this administration.

2. Corporate Mass Media got their payoff...
...from the Administration via Michael Powell. They are supporting him because they were paid for it. Not hard to figure out really.

8. Absolutely! Look at the "Saudi Holding Firm" advertising on CNN and
CNBC every day since the "Prince Bandar" revelations in Woodward's book.

Disgusting.

7. it's truly a mystery...
reading alot of books (barbara ehrenreichs's 'fear of falling' mike lind's 'up from conservativism', Todd Gitlin's 'twilight of broken dreams', mayer and abramson's 'strange justice', david brock's 'blinded by the right', cal thomas's 'blinded by the might', james hatfield's 'fortunate son', 'lies my teacher told me' by lindsen(?), mike moore's 'stupid white men', James fetzer's 'murder in Dealey plaza, al franken's 'lying liars...' and 'Babbit' by sinclair lewis) leaves the impression that the American political leadership have been fighting against what geebush has represented forever (the civil war was itself just an part in this fight-won!; jfk murder also -lost!) The USA has always been as geeb defines it, the rich have always been neocons, but hope, dreams, good humour and progressiveness somehow tilted scales away from the abyss (marshal plan, the gi bill)....the rightwing has learned from its enemy.
None of this explains how america (ie hunter thompson) stood by for years while bushamerica attacked clintonamerica via limbaugh and 'inside edition'
clintonamerica did such a good economic job the white guys thought they could destroy it and crown geeb king....lol. 911 blew the bridges up on all the mediawhores....they're doomed as much as geeb (not jeb) if geeb's ever caught.
