I think what set it off was Wolf Blitzer's pursuit, this week, of the republi-CON-JOB on Kerry's military record, and they trotted out this John O'Neil guy who is a Vietnam vet but never served WITH Kerry, and furthermore is a lawyer for a big law firm that does lots of business with the bushes. At no time was this likely conflict of interest EVER mentioned, and there was nothing in terms of opportunity for Kerry to respond. It was just flagrantly one-sided, and Blitzer didn't exactly ask probing, challenging questions of the guy. Another nauseating performance.
Beyond that, it's the blanket crap from Blitzer, Judy Woodruff, Candy Crowley, commentator William Schneider (whose affiliation with the neocon American Enterprise Institute is NEVER mentioned - gee, wonder what axe to grind HE might have...) and I, myself, would throw in the abysmal Kelly Wallace, whose reports suggest she grits her teeth, but good, whenever she's forced to report something positive about Kerry. It's wall to wall cheerleading for bush and little if anything about Kerry. Plus, whenever they have panels, it tends to be slanted tremendously towards republi-CONS, like, for example, with consistently lopsided ratios of representation - 2 republi-CONS to one Dem, and sometimes THREE to one. Or it'll be a republi-CON commenting on bush, and then another republi-CON, and then - gee, guess what - STILL ANOTHER republi-CON. They hardly EVER give Democrats a fair shake, or anything even remotely suggesting equal time.
Just gawdawful. Embarrassing! An ongoing absolute bastardization of what used to be respectable, objective news coverage. I don't know what the hell has gotten into CNN. But as a former reporter myself, I am offended by what they pass off as news these days. It's really hard not to take this insult personally, since the folks I learned from and admired would never for an instant have considered partisan reporting. You just WERE NOT SUPPOSED TO DO THAT!
I hope we storm their Bastille on this one. And I hope it's not just us - that those of us who have contacted CNN about this already will extend that to our family members, friends and like-minded coworkers. It just stinks. It's as though they aren't even a "news" service at all, anymore, but a propaganda machine. They're becomming the Pravda of the New American Century, and giving Pox "news" a run for their money these days.
