Wasn't that BEFORE THE WAR? Uh, what did they do, keep the astronauts' bodies on ice, saving them for this or something? And CNN's BUYING THIS? Good LORD. YET ANOTHER REASON to contact CNN, in whatever form you like, and complain!

14. Columbia Crew
According to Drudge Website:

"Russ Kick of thememoryhole.org filed a Freedom of Information Act requesting 'all photographs showing caskets (or other devices) containing the remains of US military personnel at Dover AFB. This would include, but not be limited to, caskets arriving, caskets departing, and any funerary rites/rituals being performed. The timeframe for these photos is from 01 February 2003 to the present.'

But Kick appears to have assumed all the photos given to him were of the WAR ON TERROR/IRAQ dead!

On Thursday NASA claimed more than 70 photos featured in Kick's war dead -- were photos of Space Shuttle Columbia's crew! The shuttle blew up on 2/1/03."

I wouldn't use the photo's unless you are sure.

The media was so dang quick on the draw that they didn't check that the images from Dover were all from Iraq. Some of the Dover pics are from Iraq casualties, the ones CNN choosed to lead with were from the Columbia event.

The media flubbed it BIGTIME, and badly. D*mn sloppy if you ask me.

A US Air Force photograph of coffins being unloaded at a base that doubles as a soldiers' mortuary in Delaware.
Picture:Reuters/US Air Force
====================

The US Air Force released 361 photographs of the flag-draped coffins of American soldiers to an internet website yesterday, angering the Pentagon.

The photographs - which Department of Defence photographers took at an air force base that doubles as a soldiers' mortuary in Dover, Delaware - were apparently released in error to a website called The Memory Hole.

Media organisations across the US, which are banned from taking similar photographs - quickly picked up the photographs.

===========

ummm....If there were no invasion into Iraq, there would be no flag-draped coffins of American soldiers to take pictures of - then the Air Force would have no pictures to release in error

seems to me the "REAL ERROR" started with invading Iraq

5. I didn't know that 300 astronauts died on the Space Shuttle
Give me a break. The cargo bay in that plane had many caskets - far more than a space shuttle crew. The Bush Administration just needs to shut up. The military is doing their best to respectfully attend to the deceased. And Bush should have been moved a lot sooner, i.e., he should have visited the fallen long ago. ARRRRRRR

18. I exaggerated
The most I saw on a single plane was 35. Those pictures are on the sinkinghole.com website. The ones the guy got from his FOIA request. I was thinking of the actual number of soldier who died in the last few months - as opposed to counting caskets.

I remember when the Space Shuttle crew remains were returned. I used to work at NASA and felt really bad aboutit - and the Shuttle blew up in the skies where I currently live. Anyway, the remains were not delivered to Dover at one time. It was more than one trip. So, I do not believe the representations of the White House. Sorry for the error. :(

25. Someone posted memory holes site here yesterday
I picked up on that post and spread it to a few sites. When I looked a the photos at the site, it looked like more than 20. Some looked like they were in a hanger and others on a plane. When the link wouldn't work last night (about midnight} I figured *they* snatched the photos. Whoever posted on here yesterday suggested saving them to hard drive on PC, but I figured no one would censor Kicks site. I was wrong, it is not functioning at this time.

Though I am not a fan of Wolfie or CNN, in fairness (as my hero Wes Clark would also do) I have to report that on the air, Wolf said that only the Columbia Shuttle photos would be pulled -- not all of them.

NOTE TO THE WHITEHOUSE: PUT TRUTH FIRST -- for a CHANGE

And, in regard to the story from your link, when Bush is described

29. They are afraid the true figures will get out!
I heard through the grapevine that there were MANY plane loads, on Many nights! I heard it from a young man whose dad is flying in the crew on one of the planes making the trips! I know for a fact that they are using our cargo planes from the Air Guard here in Charleston WV, to do some of the hauling! I also know, that some of our Air Guard crews and their cargo planes will not be coming home in a year as promised! The Guardsmen's families are pissed to the max too, because the day the troops were supposed to return has now come and gone!

Ask yourself, do we have "Shuttle Crashes" daily(nightly)now? Heroes should be brought home in the light of day and met by an honor guard and not be treated like thieves in the night like they are now by Bush's DOD!

33. Photo phuck up

The guy from the memoryhole.org filed a FOIA for all photos.
The Air Force compiled and sent him dozens(?) of photos.

They included photos of the Columbia astronauts, but lots of photos
of war dead too.

Were the astronauts ever at dover? Yes, remains of all 7 were
collected from various crash sites and sent there (DNA analysis for
one thing). I believe that the casket of the Israeli astronaut was,
in fact, draped with the flag of Israel and sent to Israel.

The Air Force complied to the letter of the FOIA filed... possibly
WITH the knowledge that not all photos were of soldiers KIA. This
could be (for conspiracy theorists) the perfect poison pill. If
the photos came out (otherwise, why file an FOIA), then when published
they could be discredited (as they now have been) and even better,
the repugs could charge that the publishers are "playing politics
with the bodies of dead heroes".

The photo taken by the lady working in Kuwait (with 20 caskets),
for which she and her husband are fired, is valid... then all of a
sudden the Dover photos come out and the story that they are of
the Columbia astronauts... preplanned to discredit ALL photos of
war dead.

It was a setup.

And we (the collective left side) fell right into the trap.
Should have vetted the photos before releasing them... but it was
a natural mistake.

39. Their point is

Here is the line of their reasoning.

1) Photos are much more emotional than mere words (or numbers).

2) Photos (and even worse, film) get more play on TV... more
Americans get their info from TV than, say, newspapers.

3) By establishing a policy that highly restricts reporters in
the field, Americans will not see Vietnam type images every night.

4) By completely restricting the photos and filming of KIAs
"homecoming", they reduce the soldiers killed to mere numbers
( which can be manipulated ).

5) By releasing all of the photos requested, including photos NOT of
soldiers KIA, but of astronauts in an accident, they planted
a potential "controversy" if the photos get any attention.

6) The controversy takes away the impact of the photos of caskets
themselves.

7) They will only stop this war if a overwhelming majority of
Americans stop supporting it.

8) History has shown that Americans won't support it if the war,
in all of its hideous aspects, are on the nightly news every day.

9) THEREFORE, MUST KEEP PHOTOS OFF THE TV... AND IF CAN'T, THEN
MAKE IT OUT THAT THEY ARE FAKE PHOTOS AND THAT THOSE THAT SEEK TO
HAVE THE PHOTOS PUBLISHED ARE DOING SO IN A TRAITOROUS ACT USING
FAKE OR FALSE PHOTOS FOR POLITICAL PURPOSE.

10) War continues.
