"democrats hate george bush because he's so effective"
Spoken by the inimitable Karen Hughes.

It literally made me laugh out loud driving in my car. Spoken on the tony snow(ugh!) show. She then brought up the... Economy!! as proof of his "effectiveness", then went into the prescription drug giveaway, and *cough* the environment!

denial is NOT a river in egypt.

2. I hate him because he is effective
He needed a spectacular attack to justify his defense spending and his desire to send us off to war... and he got it.

He needed his tax cuts for the wealthy, and he got them.

He needed to slash education spending and social programs, and he got that done.

He needed his war, and he got it.

He needed the Patriot Act, and here we are...

Need I go on?

He is very effective.

6. She is right.
He has been very effective in reaching his goals while at the same time convincing the public that he has other goals.

At least she didn't say something like we hate him because he is a moral leader. Or the world hates us for our freedoms.

10. Nonsense ... she has no point at all
does ms. hughes think that if bush were effective in implementing the views held by democrats that they would hate him ... i can just hear democrats in this hypothetical situation saying "i don't care that he's been effective in implementing everything we believe in, i still hate him because he's so effective" ... hmmm, i don' think so ...

ms. hughes needs to get a clue ... democrats hate bush because he's effectively destroyed things they believe in ... things like a budget surplus, things like peace, things like jobs, things like education, things like the constitution, things like civil liberties, things like getting money out of politics, things like the social safety net, things like our retirement accounts, things like a secure old age, things like health coverage for all americans, things like having allies in this world, things like respecting the sovereignty of other nations, things like not lying about the reasons to send our young people overseas to die, things like not hiding from the press, things like not having to bring your VP with you to help you tell the truth to the 9/11 commission, things like not covering up the truth about 9/11, things like not selling the government to the oil industry ... ok, that's enough for now ...

so, no, it's not that bush has been effective that bothers democrats, it's that he's been destructive ...

11. When you think about it, he really as gotten his way on everything big
the most startling of which remains his installation into the presidency. He can't debate, he doesn't know the issues, he isn't diplomatic, he isn't eloquent. It really is exasperating that he has gotten his way on tax cuts, the war, education, prescription drugs. The only thing we've beaten him on is his judicial appointments. He has still put some of them in anyway. I think for most of it, our anger is coupled with the question....How on earth did he do it, given his obvious limitations?

16. Karen Hughes speaks...
First of all,I'd like to say hi to everyone here at the forum.
Although Canadian, I take an active interest in American politics and can't imagine another 4 years of George Bush.
Anyway: the Karen Hughes thing caught my interest and got me thinking about the Republican tactic of taking an issue (like the environment)
in which they have obviously failed spectacularly, and not only refute the criticism, but go the extra step of claiming that things are actually much better now! Its this weird "in your face" "black is white" "2+2=5" game plan they have going that really creeps me out.Its got Karl Rove all over it of course.I can see them mapping out their election strategy:"just take any criticism they throw at you and invert it 100 per cent".They just seem to know instinctively that no matter how over the top the lie,if you just sell it with enough conviction/indignence,it'll work.
I'm just wondering when Bush will finally wear out some of this 9/11 immunity he's been enjoying all this time.Maybe the GOP should trademark "9/11" like Trump with his "you're fired".

21. Other people have said it lots of times... "He
is effective at causing carnage, poverty, wilful destruction, malice, depravity..."

W is true human sleaze. He is smelly garbage that a fickle fly feeding on feces would freely flee from. (try saying that 10 times in rapid succession! :D )

22. "Hate" is a nasty word!!!!!
But I hate Karen Hughes, Dick Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Powell, the puppet Georgie, etc., etc., etc., because they are the true traitors to our Democracy. They are willing to do whatever it takes for their own greed and self grandizement. They have sold a bill of goods to the suckers and those that would like to feel that they are somehow smarter than the President of the US have boutght it hoook-line-and-sinker. Whatever happened to the GOP, and the true Conservatives?????

23. That is as stupid as:
"They hate us because of our freedoms!"

The thing I really hate about right-wing ideology is how intellectually stunted it is. They refuse to accept that any issue is complex, so they reduce everything to a simple (and wrong) conclusion. There is no curiosity or study of any subject, just dumbed-down drivel, pablum, and demagoguery from their "leader". The reason the world is so fucked-up is because of lazy stupid people like Karen has shown herself to be.

"Get a brain morans!" Indeed.
