Poll question: If Clinton Had Pulled The Kind of Crap Bush has Pulled, I would... |
|
Edited on Sat Apr-24-04 01:45 AM by stopbush
We're all staunch Dems here, and I'd say 99.999% of us supported Bill throughout the R's witch hunt.
But suppose he had been as bad as bush? Suppose he had wrecked the economy, lied to the American people on major issues, sent our troops off to die and lied us into a pointless war, let 9/11 happen, etc etc. Would you still have supported him or not?
Think for a second before voting...and then be as honest as possible.

1. It depends on how bad the Repub running against him was. |
|
Before pushing for impeachment, I'd have to consider if the Vice President would be significantly better.
And before I'd campaign against BC, I'd have to see the positions of the Repub running against him.
Everything is relative.

Fortunately, most of the Republicans in the 90s who were "presidential timber" were fairly moderate and still had a few scruples left.
The GOP has driven almost all of the decent Republicans out of the party. A few die-hards remain.
If I was a Republican these days, I'd be wearing a paper grocery bag over my face when I went out in public.

3. Initial support, eventual desertion |

No one wants to believe that anyone could be as bad as Bush. Especially someone as superficially likeable as Clinton.
Hell, I don't want to believe that Bush is as bad as he is, and I can't stomach the little prick.
Clinton would have had my support until I could'nt avoid the fact that he was unfit(as defined under your scenario). Then I would have fought to have him removed.
The fact is, there is a part of me (just a small part of me) that wishes Clinton would have stepped down after he defeated the impeachment witch hunt.
Gore would have assumed the office, Clinton would be gone and no one would feel the need to teach the Dems a lesson, and GW would never had got close enough to steal it the election.
