My thoughts
I must say that you're the most interesting bunch of people I ever met. Have you ever read www.imao.us? This thread describe you guys perfectly.

http://www.imao.us/archives/001215.html

Anyhoo, politics is dirty, and you should be careful when trying to demonize one party (Republicans) and then make the other party (Democrats) seem like they're perfect angels. Just because a Republican is president doesn't mean the world's going to end, no more democracy, chaos will reign. Bush is not the root of all evil, no matter how hard you try. Clinton is not the root of all that is good, no matter how hard you try. Both parties have bad parts, racists, rapists, liars, and cheats, but both parties do have good, such as believing in what they feel is best for America.

I feel that Bush isn't nearly as bad as you say he is. I know you believe he's an idiot, but he's surrounded by a great cabinet, all very qualified in their positions. I believe that Bush does try to do what's right, though sometimes it gets effy on how he argues his point across. lol.

I also must say that most people do not share your beliefs, and when you take the elitest side, saying, "Well, they're just idiots; we're so smart," you're not doing much to help convert middle-America to your side.

In conclusion, God doesn't serve either party. We serve Him.

Thank you, and good luck in the future as I will now be banned for not sharing your beliefs.

God doesn't serve to either party, we serve Him.

"God doesn't serve to either party, we serve Him. " How do you know God is a HE? and the Repugs know HE works with their party and talks directly to their leader (at least he hears voices).
Bye, bye.

Apparently, God told Bush to invade Iraq. Right. Makes sense to me. I'm sure Jesus has a whole list of countries that he wants us to invade.

And by the way, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Riiiight. Start off with an insult. That's a sure way to be persuasive.

Clinton is not the root of all that is good

Few claim that he is.

I feel that Bush isn't nearly as bad as you say he is. I know you believe he's an idiot, but he's surrounded by a great cabinet, all very qualified in their positions.

Hardly. One of the reasons troops are dying in Iraq right now at such a rapid pace is because of Rumsfeld's "fight the war on the cheap" theory. In case you haven't noticed, it doesn't work.

I also must say that most people do not share your beliefs, and when you take the elitest side, saying, "Well, they're just idiots; we're so smart," you're not doing much to help convert middle-America to your side.

Most people support Democratic positions when polled. They've just been conditioned by the media to believe that Democrats are something that they are not; this is not "elitism," it's classical conditioning and a fact of life.

On Edit: Pseudo-HTML typo, possibly to blame for the confusion.

Because I rebut the points of the OP, I'm not "speaking for myself?"

Generally speaking, in a logical arguement, one responds to the assertions of the other side. Otherwise, everyone is just spouting non sequiturs, and there's no point in even talking.

I could take your post as a personal attack, but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt for now.

13. thanks for sharing bob
god doesnt serve us, we serve him

i sit in the religious belt, raising a family. my children go to a baptist private school. and we live a life of love caring for each other and others.

for the last three years, the people around me, the people in my boys school, i feel more a need to reach out to the right and say, i am not the evil you create me to be. i am not unpatriotic because i vote democrat, i am not unchristian because i dont hate gays, or muslims. can you love me

i feel a strong need to reach out to the right, and say, in all my lite, knowing me for the last 6 years, even though i am liberal can you love me

so i ask you, when talking to the right, do you suggest the same to them, that the liberal isnt all evil, that the liberal is christian brothers and sisters, equally valuable as the baptist.

do you help them along the way, as i see you try to do here

I feel that both parties do have their good. My sister is an extreme liberal, but I don't doubt her patriotism nor her beliefs in Christianity. The beauty of America is in our freedom of expression, and to embrace others, though their ideas may be different then ours.

31. i agree. i have no desire for a one party rule
we have a one party rule right now. are you empathitic to the party that for three years have been told they are not allowed freedom of speech. would that bother you, if a nation told you to keep your mouth shut and dont express, that only one party had the right to speak.

do you understand that we literally have been told we arent allowed to talk out loud. fundamentally that is a horrible thing for any party to do to another

i am not a liberal. i live conservatively.

i am a christian and have such a love of jesus, and have taught the teaching of jesus to my children. i have seen a lot of example of bush not being christian, yet the school tells my boys to honor him. isnt it my responsibility, obligation as a parent and christian to tell boys, wait a mintue.

bush lies, i do not have to create bush into something he is not, to honor him, i do not have to deny the liar bush is to love him. that is not my job as a christian

my husband is a republican, my father and two brothers are. and they are honest men, with integrity, and i love them so. it is their job and obligation to reach to their own party and say, we have taken the wrong path. we have to unite and fix this, the democrats cannot

the republican party right now isnt living in truth. and being a christian i assume, you know what this creates. so what is your part in it. do you acknowledge the lies bush say, still love the man, but acknowledge, or do you deny

cause in denial, you create the mess and the hate, equally with bush.

jesus says, you have a responsibility to not blindly follow. are you

personally, i pray for both parties to behealthy and strong and in integrity. both parties. we need them both. we need the morality of the right and we need the openminded of the left and we need it in love. and i am not seeing the republicans in any way desiring a sharing of creating such a unity, do you

54. "morality of the right"? thanks for continuing...
to further a right wing, lying stereotype. believe me repugs have no lock on morality, unless you consider morality to include shooting, burning, and exploding human beings for no good reason, unless you think one religion should control our country, unless you believe that democrats are immoral because some of them choose to not accept a pre-babylonian myth as truth. i suggest you first read up on the deinition of "morality" before you vacantly suggest that one party is moral, implying that the other one isn't. also i have a few repug friends, and they are very open minded. this is the first post that has truly angered me in a year of reading du.

63. the best thing i heard in kerry's speech yesterday was the labels
i was talking the platforms and exactly the stereotypes you speak of, and the untruth in them. how the hypocrisy in believing exactly this. the ironic, as republican states their platform, fiscally responsible/family value......they are doing exactly the opposite

and as the democrats state theirs, they are not necessarily following them either.

first what we have to do is to dissolve this, but it only comes with talking openly aout it.

Edited on Sat Apr-24-04 12:32 PM by Neshanic
and before you start quoting Bible verse, I must say you are a very polite freeper.

The Bible was re-written many times. That is a fact. If you believe in the Bible as absolute truth, then you will not last long here. Why? Because the Bible is a guide, not absolute. But it is, you may say. Then why do you not follow it to the letter, New AND old testament. Pretty hard these days, even Fallwell does not have enough stones to throw at the violators of the Bible.

I am speaking for myself only on this...others may believe differently, practice differently, live differently, and love differently...but they all are loved, no exclusions, no outcasts, no one person is less because of what was translated by men of a different time and agenda.

Contrast that with my fellow "Methodist", the "Christian" in the Whitehouse. No group too broad to divide, no issue too twisted to twist more to serve him and his agenda, this supposed Jesus devotee is anything but a Christian.

Your belief is your own, and the people who share your belief in the absolute of the Bible, make you impossible to speak with. Because you are ALWAYS right. God is on your side. I have stopped trying, because that is what it always comes down to.

Liberals are the true Christians, but we do not trumpet it to the world busking for money for new transmitters.

42. no we arent bob
we get to have a greater expectation from the man that leads us. that is why he is honored with the job. we get to have a greater expectation from the man who leads us in our christianity, that is why he gets that honor

bush doesnt get off with we are all sinners.

not when he doesnt allow the sins of others without heavy handed strong arm punishment. that is hypocrisy bob, and that is jesus's loudest gripe, from we the people

jesus walked into the commerce area and thru a fit, you remember. because of exactly that hypocrisy.

i havent seen any republicans stand up and say to the oklahoma governnor, you cannot call someone who votes for kerry a terrorist.

i have not heard a fellow right christian stand up and say to their fellow christians, you cannot threaten death to the gay, or the muslim or the liberal or gorelick the 9/11 commissioner

that is too easy of an out bob. and that is why bush has to go and the republicans and the fundamentalist have to review their behavior the last handful of years. because they are being hypocrits as they preach sin to me

no i am not being sinner bob, i am living my life as i am asked, i am doing what i am suppose to do. i am loving my family and loving strangers and loving you

and i am perfectly imperfect in jesus eye, and in my mistep i hear it loudly, and i feel the comfort and love of jesus, and that helps to heal me, to allow me to let my lite shine even brighter.

do you know that is what jesus asks of us. let you lite shine, do not hide it under a bushel. that is easy enough to do, by being love

to see Republicans do things like that. I also think it's bad to see Bush compared to Hitler and Saddam and terrorists, and all those things with the LIHOP/MIHOP. 49. you know what would take care of that bob
and this is maybe pointing the finger in the appropriate place.

when after 9/11 government orginaztions say out loud we need to keep mouth shut. that is repression happening. when government brings religion into state, that is repression. when government creates all citizens as criminal, that is repression. (sometime i will have to tell you my experience at my little ole airport in amarillo texas, 6:30 in morning with my two boys and husband going to florida for vacation)

when you have our leaders doing all in secrecy, when they implememnt in law and constitution repression.

so i suggest, is it the democrats fault that there is a feel of nazism, or has bush and company created a reality to allow the feel. see bob, i am raising a 6 and 9 year old boys, and i teach them to own their part in something

now the 9/11, how much research have you done. it is amazing the coincidences. i would love to say, stop all saying lihop, but the thing, lordy. there is a lot of information out there. in your own time, in the peace of your own home, you might check it out to see why people are saying this.

bob, after 9/11 i was a we have to back bush. we have to unite. the iraq war, i was this is going to be vietnam, but when i saw bush ready to go in, i told husband we are goint o have to trust he knows something i do not. adn if he lies, we will find out, and he will be in trouble

i tell you, i have done my part in being supportive and playing my role of citizen.

i put it on bush's shoulders. i dont have to own his mistakes, they are his to own

and bob, thank you for this sharing, and the allowing for me to express. whether we conclude the same or not does not matter. what matters is the allowing of each other.

bush is not indicitive of republican, he is not representive of who you are as a republican, and truth doesnt hurt, it is the fear, which is illusion, but if you allow yourself to see the truth of what is being created there isnt pain, and then the power you have to create good. with your party. and your party needs work

do the democrat have issues, you betcha. as i say, i am conservative, i tell my boys right now, i am democrat, cause they need my help and support right now. but as soon as it is time, i am going to be presenting the truth of democratic party, and a lot of democrats see places we need to work on, that i assure you. it is just not the time right now for the democrats. the republicans have all the power, and they are creating the mess in this now

Jeebus, what a bunch of skeerdy cats!

See, when folks compare Georgie to Hitler, there is at least a modicum of similarity there (revocation of basic rights, attacking other countries unprovoked, etc.).

As a matter of fact, there is only ONE area where they diverge: Hitler was in fact a gen-yoo-wine war hero, and as we all know, Georgie had his teeth cleaned.

22. Gotta take issue
with your comments; although I agree we should not label people. BUT - Bush has not surrounded himself with the best & the brightest. If he had, I'd rest easier 'cause I would believe that decisions were reasoned out and based on fact. This is obviously NOT taking place. What Bush has done is surround himself with narrow-mindedness. All you have to do is listen to them. Really listen.

For the sake of argument - Bush may be a well-intentioned individual, but good intentions are not enough. Most especially when you are the president of this great country.

There is a lot of name calling out there - on both sides of the political field. I go beyond and look for the substance, the truth and what is right. That's what we as citizens should do.

As for God - I feel our Creator is not happy with us; but, God does not and will not take sides! God won't intervene, especially when we don't use the greatest gift bestowed on humans - a brain!

29. "Bush isn't nearly as bad as you say he is." here's his cabinet
Edited on Sat Apr-24-04 11:54 AM by AZDemDist6
"but he's surrounded by a great cabinet, in their positions . I believe that Bush does try to do what's right, though sometimes it gets effy on how he argues his point across. lol."

Dept of Commerce, Donald (Donnie) Evans

George II's closest friend and confident. As his presidential campaign chairman, he raised $100 million. Only worked for one company in his life: Tom Brown, Inc., an oil and gas company. Nine years as President and 10 yrs as CEO. No Wall Street or economic experience at all.

Office of Budget & Management, Mitch Daniels

Corporate VP for Eli Lilly & Co. pharmaceuticals for the last 13 years. The two things he'll be doing in his job is drafting the national budget and dealing with tax issues; he is completely without experience in either arena. Served as political director under Reagan (85-87). Headed right-wing think tank Hudson Institute. A key player in Quayle's VP campaign.

Dept of Housing & Urban Development, Melquiadees Martinez

George II's thank-you kiss to Florida. His only housing experience is serving as chairman of Orlando Housing Authority for two years (84-86). He's very vocal on right-wing Cuban issues; he has called for a naval blockade of Cuba. A yes-man who has no clue about housing.

Dept. of State, Colin Powell

In Vietnam, Powell's casual investigation rejected as false initial charges of a civilian massacre at My Lai. As a member of Reagan's national security team, he personally arranged the illegal transfer of at least 2,000 missiles to Iran. In his autobiography, Powell claims that he was "the chief administration advocate" for the Contras. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for both the invasion of Panama (and decimation of civilian neighborhoods) and the Gulf War. Powell has been dismissive of Gulf War Syndrome, while 184,000 of the 697,000 Gulf War troops have filed disability claims with the government. Powell has no experience with diplomatic matters of state.

Dept of Treasury, Paul O'Neill

Was deputy director of Office of Management & Budget under Ford. Chairman of Alcoa Corp., one of the nation's largest toxic polluters; O'Neill's shares are worth more than $50 million. Political policy insider, no Wall Street or economic experience. Supports balanced federal budget, critic of Federal Reserve interest rate hikes. Chair of the board of Rand Corp., serves on other right-wing think tank boards

cabinet to help make up for his intellectual defiencies. Besides, Condileeza Rice didn't sound like a very good National Security Advisor because she relied for people to come to her about intelligence instead of taking the initiative! Also, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz were horribly wrong in their predictions about Iraq, and as of now, they still have NO idea who they are going to transfer Iraq to because they didn't even bother to plan to have a post-invasion plan in place!

Besides, many of the people here are NOT elitists---they are normal middle-class Americans like you. You really shouldn't be typecasting before with right-wing talking points.

47. By definition, "liberals" are more "Christian" than conservatives...
Edited on Sat Apr-24-04 12:53 PM by kentuck
Because Christ was the original "bleeding heart liberal". Liberals will not admit this but the whole liberal philosophy is based more on the teachings of Christ than any other person or idea. Feed the hungry, love your enemy, blessed are the peacemakers, etc...not something found in the conservative philosophy.

Yes, many liberals don't want to admit that they are Christians in belief and practice. They even disavow the religion of Christianity as they practice Christianity in their political beliefs...

53. Which God? And, who says that God is a "him"?
There are so many to choose from. And, how do you know what God does or doesn't do, think or doesn't think? Or, which side he/she/it is on?

As for believing Bush "does try to what's right for the country..". Like what? Taking us into an unnecessary war? Raping the environment? Trying to make it illegal for women to deal with their own bodies? Making the education system a class based system open only to the affluent? Endlessly yammering about "freedom" while attempting to shut it down here? Promoting "democracy" by invading, occupying and subjugating another country and slaughtering it's citizens?

His idea, and apparantly yours, of "doing what's right" is somewhat divergent than that of most of the people of the world.

"Just because a Republican is president doesn't mean the world's going to end, no more democracy, chaos will reign."

Well, Bob, we're talking about *, here, and his Vulcans, and chaos IS reigning!

(Snip)
"The great English poet, John Milton, in his epic poem Paradise Lost, argues that the preservation of the freedom of the human will is the most important feature of man’s existence,'

'The mind is its own place, and in itself

Can make a heav’n of hell, a hell of heav’n.

What matter where, if I be still the same,

And what I should be, all but less than he

Whom thunder hath made greater? Here at least

We shall be free; th’ Almighty hath not built

Here for his envy, will not drive us hence:

Here we may reign secure, and in my choice

To reign is worth ambition though in hell:

Better to reign in hell, than serve in heav’n.'

'Milton is proposing that it is better to compromise everything, even the possibility for salvation and goodness, in order to preserve the vital and unparalleled power of the freedom of the human will. Many agree with Milton that life would hold little meaning if it was somehow proven that free will does not exist."

You're right. Politics is very dirty, but you know what? This is the Democratic Underground, a political site, and as long as Republicans are in office shoveling shit in our direction, we will respond in kind.

Also, if you think we all think Clinton is the root of all good, then you clearly don't understand what we are, how we think, or what we do. You and your friends over on the other side of the asile can try to make it seem as if we worship Clinton at our liberal altars all you want, but that isn't often the case. A more accurate description, IMHO, would be that we are trying to set the course of the nation so that we are, in foreign and domestic affairs, a more perfect union.... but I think I'll stop there because we have our own opinions (contrary to what many of your fellow Republicans would like to think) and I cannot represent everyone here.

One thing I will add is that you calling us "elitist" is rather amusing. You people accuse us of raising taxes to support a socialist state and also accuse us of promoting that evil concept we call "welfare," then you call us "elitist?" MAKE UP YOUR MIND, BROTHA!

I know you're already banned and all and probably aren't reading this, but if you're actually for a debate, I hang around in LP, and I'll be glad to challenge you there. Until then, enjoy your new lawn ornament!

68. Ok, here's my take:
Anyhoo, politics is dirty, and you should be careful when trying to demonize one party (Republicans) and then make the other party (Democrats) seem like they're perfect angels. Most of us here wouldn't call dems "perfect angels". Every human has faults. However, we would like a leader who thinks about what they are doing, and can accept responsibility, and evaluate the long-term affects of their decisions. Just because a Republican is president doesn't mean the world's going to end, no more democracy, chaos will reign. Bush is not the root of all evil, no matter how hard you try. Clinton is not the root of all that is good, no matter how hard you try. I would never claim either of those things. Neither would anyone with more than about 12 brain cells. But Clinton did a lot of good for this country, and Bush has done it a lot of harm. Both parties have bad parts, racists, rapists, liars, and cheats, but both parties do have good, such as believing in what they feel is best for America. Agreed. But that doesn't mean I have to agree with what they believe is best. Nor do you. That's one of the beauties of this country that is quickly being forgotten.

I feel that Bush isn't nearly as bad as you say he is. I know you believe he's an idiot, but he's surrounded by a great cabinet, all very qualified in their positions. I believe that Bush does try to do what's right, though sometimes it gets effy on how he argues his point across. lol. No comment.

I also must say that most people do not share your beliefs, and when you take the elitest side, saying, "Well, they're just idiots; we're so smart," you're not doing much to help convert middle-America to your side. I would call a lot of americans misled and ignorant. I don't believe most people are truly stupid. And yeah, calling people names won't help convert them. But then, you give what you get, in many cases.

In conclusion, God doesn't serve either party. We serve Him. YOU serve him. Again, the beauty of America is that we all should be free to believe what we wish, and have our religious beliefs separate from our government. You're right, neither party ought to serve any religious figure, as a party.

I think you may have had a couple of valid points, but you lost them in the accusatory and purposefully provocative nature of your post. Sorry.
