It would depend on what sort of medical deferrments they would be offering that would affect the number of family members that this would affect...

NO Medical deferments in the Medical or Special Skills DRAFTS. Only "essential community service" deferments allowed for those.

Divinity School students are the only ones with real student deferments now.

All doctors, nurses, programmers, linguists and engineers will likely be forced to register with the Selective Service by May 1, 2005, only 371 DAYS FROM TODAY!

However, I am getting sick and tired of hearing this time and time again, if that's your plan, that's fine and dandy, just a) have the dedication to follow through, otherwise they are just idle threats which make you look foolish, b) be a part of the solution, don't run in the face of adversity!

8. You can't just move to another country...

...as far as I know. You have to get a visa and go through some long process, and even then there are no guarantees. I'm not sure if people are deluding themselves into thinking taht the solution is just to "move to Canada", or "move to Europe". They have immigration laws. I wouldn't consider moving anyway, but does anyone have a better sense of these issues? I doubt moving abroad anywhere would be a snap.

10. We signed the Smart Border Agreement with Canada

Will keep lists of those who want to leave and enter either country and makes return of those requested easier. Might be used for draft dodgers. Other countries as Canada, if you are registered you will be drafted, makes no difference where you are.

Best thing is to first work your tail off for Kerry who has a NO-DRAFT PLAN as explained in my other thread.

computer draftsperson doing ocean/environmental drafting. She could be working on the next pipeline. Pray not for she is wife and mother and dislikes *ushit tremendously. Cad operators, I understand are few and far between (except in India maybe). Not to mention scores of family friends. Too sad, I must say.

14. 20-44 computer person gets my husband

My husband is 38 and a industrial engineering specialist. Yeah, this new "special talents" draft - or whatever the hell they are calling it scares the hell out of me. Seriously if they start drafting people my husband's age, he has said he is leaving the country - PERIOD, and he's not the type to make idle threats. My husband would never survive the military. He has a central auditory processing disorder and mild Asperger's syndrome, which makes him shut down when there is too much noise, confusion, or even when someone just gives him oral instructions. But they said for the older draft there wouldn't even be any medical deferrments or conscientious objector deferrments, so he'd be SOL. We have a couple of friends in Canada, so we know if they start drafting people like my husband we are heading north.

whom is 25. Only one, so far, has enlisted and she is 18 and in the Marines.

I don't even think the possibility of a draft is on their radar screen.

Five of my nieces and nephews are the children of my one remaining brother who served 21 years in the Army so they would feel obligated. Even though he has said he does not want them enlisting but rather to go to college. He would not object to them going into the military following college because then they would go in as officers rather than as enlisted class.

17. They could call back my oldest son

and my other 2 sons, 21 and 24. My stepson is already in Baghdad. My oldest son will take my other 2 sons to South America. He knows where to go. I already warned them a while back.
I wont go thru this again, with one kid already there.
Sad thing is, our guard and reserves are destroyed because of this. We have no one left to actually help out in this country in case of a disaster, because the Bush admin is not only using up all our volunteer force, killing them and making them not re enlist, but keeping good kids like my oldest, who was in the Guard, out of it. He will never re enlist, he said. Not ever.
and my youngest son wont join the Coast Guard thanks to Bush. None of them will be involved in anything, as long as Bush is in office, they told me.
and they are all going to vote. for their first times in their lives.
