Remember the horror that was the second Gore/Bush debate?
Edited on Sat Apr-24-04 03:15 PM by rumguy
Found this old salon article about the debate.

"'I agree with that,' Gore said. 'I agree with that ... I haven't heard a big difference right in the last few exchanges ... Maybe I've heard the previous statements wrong, Governor ... Have I got that wrong? ... I don't disagree with that ... I don't want to jump in. May I reply?'"

That's the way I remember it, a weak Al Gore. I agree, I agree...WTF was that all about? He had some bad advice. And here is proof of that. Check out what one of Gore's staffers is quoted as saying about Bush - you'd never see pukes say this about Gore or Kerry or any dem presidential candidate.

"'Look, Bush is an endlessly charming man,' acknowledged Gore spokesman Todd Webster. 'He's engaging and witty ... but that doesn't mean that he should be president of the United States.'"

I hope Kerry and his people do it different this time. The pukes are the enemy, plain and simple - that's the way they have to be treated.

4. No, however I do remember the horror of the reporting of the debate......
.....it was much like your post. Taking little things out of context and twisting them to fit the perception of Gore being weak. What prey tell was Gore responding to when he agreed with Bush*? Could it have been any number of LIES that Bush* told about his stand on the issues? Issues like nation building, no child left behind or the environment that he subsequently proved he was lying about? What should Gore have done? Should he have said "I disagree!" about the issues that Bush* tried to steal from the left? What's your point? When Bush* lies and claims he wants to help seniors and the poor should JK jump up and yell "I disagree!" We obviously have far different memories of the content and conduct of that debate. :)

7. read the article, it will refresh your memory
it was a shitty performance by Gore...period...

he let Bush get away with soooo much...while agreeing with him about practically everything, letting Bush frame the debate - that's how dems lose elections.

read the quote from the Gore staffer complimenting Bush...

8. I have read it and I totally agree with the staffer about Bush*......
.....however, being "engaging and witty" is no more a sign of intellect or fitness for the office of the President than civility in a debate situation translates to being weak. Remember, according to the public opinion polls Bush* is the one more people would rather go have a beer with. Rush is also witty and engaging, that's why the ditto heads LOVE him but he too is full of shit!

Bush* made a number of statements that Gore agreed with during the debate that much is clear. Now go back and read the entire debate transcript and please point out what statements Gore should not have agreed with.

I'm relatively certain that had Gore jumped across the podium screaming that Bush* was a lier and thief for making false claims and trying to steal the liberal agenda, the press, owned and controlled by who they are, would have taken a dim view of that as well.

BTW: Don't you think trying to infer that because a Gore 'staffer' thinks something that Al necessarily agrees with it is a bit of a stretch?

5. Remember the "Saturday Night Live" skit about that debate?
"Oh, I agree with the governor... I agree, I agree!"

The entire skit was Bush (Will Farrell; damn, I miss him!) and Gore (Daryl Hammond) agreeing with each other during the debate. At the end, they asked the moderator if they could just listen to the Rangers game on the radio...
