just got sirius system--help!!
okay, i admit, i am technically-challenged. i just got the sirius car/home docking combo & was eagerly looking forward to activating the system here at the house when i noticed in the direcions "plug audio cable's white & red connectors into your audio system."
:(

what audio system? i don't have a stereo system & haven't for quite some time.

the photo showing the audio connectors looks like the back of my tv set, but i want to be able to use the radio throughout the house....do i need to go out & buy something else so that i can get audio output & if so, what????

help!

1. Do you have speakers on your computer? A boombox? headphones?
BTW, what model Sirius receiver/dock did you get?

Edited on Sat Apr-24-04 04:32 PM by WolverineDG
it was a bit larger than the other 2 offered, but since i will be using it in the car as well as the house, but i need something i can actually SEE the buttons on whilst driving.

yes i do have speakers on the computer, but i think the audio connectors are a bit large...i will look again.

thanks for the suggestion of the headphones; i do have a pair, so will try those out too.

and thanks a million for being helpful & giving me some suggestions, & not being a snot like another responder. :toast:

6. Two Words, as regards plugging into the computer's soundcard:
Adapter. Plugs.

Two more words: Radio. Shack.

Fly, little buckaroo! Fly! ;-)

2. Reminds me of the people
who buy software, then call customer support when it doesn't work, and then get mad when they are told they need a computer to use software.

5. gosh jp

i'm not mad at anyone, i didn't say i was mad, i didn't intimate that i was mad....i just asked for some assistance. sheesh

since you can buy a radio without having to have a fancy-dancy sound system, i assumed (incorrectly) that i could do the same w/this newfangled satellite radio thingy.

thanks for your "help."

3. based on what you said here is what you need to do
you should have the following parts:

1. The receiver
2. The receiver holder, which contains input for the ac adapter, output for audio where you can connect headphones or amplified speakers, and a connection for the antenna

Put the receiver into the holder, connect connect the ac adapter, and antenna, speaker, and power up.

You may need to locate the antenna near a window to get a good signal.

In addition you will need the radio ID for activation, which can be found through the menu options

9. I get the feeling that there are no speakers with this unit
please verify.....

I think you have a mini-jack out. Check how your computer speakers are connected to your PC, it might be the same 1/8 inch stereo plug. If so, you can just plug your PC speakers into your JVC dock. The issue there will be that you will have to manually switch the speakers back and forth between the PC and the JVC. :(

Headphones will be problematic if the output isn't designed to drive 'phones (inaudible) and/or there is no volume control on the receiver or dock.

Good Luck.

PS. I have (a non-dock-thingie) Sirius receiver in my car and I LOVE it. I live between 2 major radio station markets in kind of a wasteland. Plus you can drive coast to coast on one station.

13. correct!
this particular set up (car kit/home kit) doesn't come w/speakers. after playing around w/my cd headsets, i started thinking "hmm, so how do my computer speakers hook up w/the hard drive???" sure 'nuff, the green connector is just the right size for the docking station, so voila! i'm not using the headphones & randi's coming in loud & clear. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

thanks everyone for your help & suggestions!!!! :)

10. Plug it into your PC
Depending on what sort of sound card you have you may be able to plug it into the PC. You may need to get an rca(stereo) to standard single stereo plug.

12. If you go this route, and you have stereo-mini out on the JVC
Edited on Sat Apr-24-04 05:13 PM by BlueEyedSon
get a stereo-mini (male) to stereo-mini (male) cable at Rat Shack, Best Buy, Cicuit City, whatever. They come in all kinds of lengths to make your life easy (3 to 20 feet).

Then you have to figure out how to set the soundcard software to use the signal from the "aux in" (or whatever they call it).

But at least you won't have to play "musical cables"....
