I have posted this before but did not get much response. I live in a state where my vote will be wasted. I was thinking of spending election day in a battleground state. I want to rent a van and drive around low income neighborhoods to drive people to the polls. I was thinking of using food or soft drinks as an enticement. If I do not direct people how to vote, is this legal? Has anyone else done something that works more effectively that targets dem voters? Are there organizations that I could contact in Florida or other battleground states to get involved? I don't want to call households or put up signs for the local Dem. party headquarters. I want to get directly involved in something that could actually make a difference. I ask anyone else here that lives in Texas or similar state to do the same if possible. I can't stand the thought of sitting at home in Texas and watching the returns tuesday night as Bush gets another 4 years because of a couple hundred votes in a state that I could have made a difference in. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

i too sit here and listen to people talking get involved and i sit in texas and think, a waste here and maybe a beating up, lol and a wink. but i too was thinking the same. i am in the panhandle, so i could go to clovis and some other small new mexico place, or tucumcari or even to albq, or if okla is a swing state, i dont know how firm it is. i have reasons for hope there.
what state would you be driving into

3. You could best help if you hook up with a "Get Out The Vote" group. |
|
Just driving around and looking for potential voters might make people doubt your intentions, you know?
Closer to the election, choose the state and metro area that you want to work in. Get in touch with the local Democratic Party in that area and tell them that you want to volunteer for their "Get Out The Vote" effort. They should be able to provide you more direction at that time.
In my experience, GOTV efforts are best organized by local unions. If possible, try to find an AFL-CIO or UAW organization in the area you want to work. Even if you're not a union member, they'll likely take you on. :-)
Good luck, and think about coming to Ohio... we're a true battleground state, and it's going to take everything, absolutely everything, we have to Get Out the Damned Vote!!!!!

I agree that Ohio of 2004 could be the Florida of 2000.

6. You'd have to go a couple weeks early, though. |
|
A large number of people don't bother registering to vote, so you'd be better off going a couple weeks or a month early and convincing them to register and getting their committment to vote when the time comes...

8. i have a friend in florida |
|
my kids will be in school and a trip would be a blast. just dont know anymore if i can make it thru the security of an airport. for whatever reason i get pulled out for random, and then they try to intimidate. flying isnt that important to me any more.
thank you for this share. this is a good thing for me, to be able to go to florida and get my friend to get involved and some of her friends. start now creating something
excellent idea, and then at least feel like i am doing something. cool
