if bush wins in november, will he destroy democracy over the next 4 years?
we du-ers have an obvious bias, and when we talk to people, we obviously have a selection bias in the political views of our friends and so on.

but i have to say this. reagan was popular. there were plenty of people who, misguided though i knew them to be, felt that he was a good president, maybe even a great president, and they were proud to say so. ok, he won. he had the support of the people and he won.

how about bush the smarter? there were fewer people eager to support him, but he had his share, and he still lost.

how about clinton. man did he have his enemies. i mean, there were people who hated him. people i worked with, played bridge with. he had his supporters, too, of course, but man did he have his detractors. and despite this, he won. he really won.

finally, what about bush the lesser? i know no one who will stand up and say they're proud of bush. now, i know plenty of republicans, plenty of people who will vote for bush in november, plenty of people who say better him than gore, better him than kerry.

but i know of no one (outside of pundits and fr) who will actually say that bush is a great president. the fact of the matter is, even those who will vote for him in november are disappointed in him, ashamed of him even. he has far less support among republicans than his father did.

i therefore submit this:

if bush wins in november, he will not destroy democracy in the next 4 years.
no.
if bush wins in november, it will be proof that democracy is already dead.

1. The Coup of 2000 destroyed democracy
all since has just been a show.

Like professional wrestling.

3. The only way that democracy will be dead
is if we stop fighting for it!

4. The only change will be from U.S. to F. R.
Fascist Republic with SS accents.

Or the other choice is from U.S. to I.C. Imperialistic colonialists.

6. If democracy means life as we have known it, yes, I think another
Bush presidency would see the end of that. Not because of the Patriot Act and the constitution and judicial system, etc. I'm afraid that the hatred that many in the world have for us will only grow more rabid. We can't hide from hatred like that.

Everything is at stake -- our economy, our physical selves and where we live. When things get as bad as I'm afraid they might, people become enraged and look for someone to blame. The sad record of history is that when people are afraid and need to blame someone else, they do terrible things to each other. Not since the civil war have we really turned on each other. I shudder to think of how bad it could get.

8. Bush? No, he doesn't really do anything
but Ashcroft, Cheney and team-CEO will slice and dice whatever is left by then.

13. I agree
it's Cheney that worries me. Bush is just a puppet. Without Cheney he really is nothing.

9. It already happened
during the December 12, 2000 supreme decision......GONE.... Now it is just a question if we can restore it at all or some of it at least.....Even if we win this election in November we will have quite a job trying to restore Democracy here in America....That is why chasing over to Iraq to restore Democracy is SUCH A JOKE......

10. Plutocracy
The USA is not a Democracy. It is a Plutocracy. Four more years of
the NeoFascists and Amerika will be the most hated nation on this planet. How will Americans react? Most will go along with the new Amerika and a few will whine.
