British DUers, what would happen to Blair if there is a terrorist attack
on British soil? Say if you had terrorists do Madrid-style bombings of your train stations or worse, do you think Blair would be forced to resign? Can Labour swing back to the left?

What will it take? I keep thinking about what happened in Spain. You had terrorist bombings there and Bush lost a coalition partner in the process. Can the same thing happen in Britain? You have to admit Blair has made your country less safe as a result of going along with Bushco.

3. The only people that
would support the government after a terrorist attack these days is the Americans. The British have more brains, I'm sad to admit. They can see that Blair, like Bush, is praying 24/7 for another 9/11.

5. what would happen???
This is what happens when Spain kowtows to islamic terrorism:

The body of a police special forces officer who died when Islamic terrorists blew themselves up in Madrid was taken from its grave, mutilated and burnt yesterday.

The coffin and body of special agent Francisco Javier Torronteras were pulled from the tomb in Madrid Sur cemetery in Carabanchel and pushed 1,000 yards in a wheelbarrow before being doused with petrol and set alight.

The body was found with a pick driven into its head and a spade dug into its chest.

Although no motive was immediately apparent, police speculated that it could be the work of sympathisers of the Moroccan terrorist group that carried out the train bomb attacks in the Spanish capital on March 11, killing 192 people and injuring 1,900.

The interior ministry said the act of desecration could have been part of "an Islamic rite of revenge".

And yet Spain had already capitulated to the terrorist demands.

That doesn't seem to count for much, does it?

7. Spain didn't kowtow to terrorists...
They ditched a leader who, for political purposes, disingenuously tried to blame those attacks on a third party, the Basque separatists.

And FYI - replacing bad leadership isn't "kowtowing" to terrorists. If your city has a high murder rate, and the police chief can't seem to do anything about it, and he gets fired and replaced, nobody ever says that the city government is captiulating to the criminals.

8. Spain NEVER cowtowed to terrorism!
The people of Spain recognized that joining the so-called coalition of the "Willing" was crossing into inflamming the Islamic fanatics. This second crusade is only creating more problems than solving them and caused the Madrid bombings. The new government in Spain recognized this and made the decision to pull out which was the right choice. Spain did not cowtow.

9. golly, it must really piss you off to see a socialist beat a con, huh?
Well, if it helps ease the pain - blame terrorism.

Its certainly easier!

10. We know what it's like...
We've had terrorist bombings over the last three decades from the IRA. They are terrorists. They blew up pubs, shopping centres, hotels. Successive governments have had no idea how to deal with them except to occupy Northern Ireland.

11. I don't think it would bring him down
As Mr. Blur says above, there were terrorist bombings from the IRA for about 25 years, and it never produced a notable pressure, outside Northern Ireland, for the government, of either party, to change its policies. The policies did change, but gradually, and mostly quietly. Stubbornness is a British characteristic - before the Falklands war, it would have been acceptable for the government to negotiate with Argentina about them, but after Argentina invaded, that was never going to happen.

Blair didn't link Iraq and al-Qaeda in the way that Bush did, so I don't think he's so vulnerable to the charge that he's inflamed international terrorism. In fact, the police already say a terrorist attack is inevitable in the UK, and Blair doesn't deny it. I haven't seen any poll figures, but my felling is that that hasn't hurt his standing. An attack would only have the chance of bringing him down if he were shown to have been negligent in preventing it.

12. I think
our heavy handedness in certain areas, negotiating away Palestinian land without talking to them, and an attack on Syria will put enough distance between Blair and bush that Blair can come out as reasonable enough.
