Wow, the gloves are really coming off! Way to go Garry!
:kick: for Doonesbury!
And just to make everyone feel even better, Doonesbury is in almost EVERY newspaper around! Millions will see it!
This is wonderful!

2. My only problem, is that Doonesbury's W... |
|
...always comes across as smarter than the real thing...I mean, coming up with his own thoughts and stuff...

3. What's with the helmet? |
|
OK, I don't read Doonesbury, and so am left wondering...
What's with the (Roman?) helmet? Obviously, it's Chimpy McSmirk, but what's the derivation?
HEY!! And what's with the asterisk, "*"? Is that why everyone types "*" when referring to The Evil-Doer?

denotes the fact that W was never elected and will go down in history with an * after his name as the only (we hope) selected pResident. Trudeau has been using that for a long while, though I can't remember if he started it or just picked up on it.

well, lets start from the begining...
When Bush the elder was in the White House, he made the "1000 points of light" (*) speech. So, Trudeau started drawing him as a point of light. VP Quale was drawn as a quail feather. The helmet is a sign for imperialism, and the askersk * is for the bush legacy.
EDIT to correct myself.

And with all that's happened to B.D. this week, the new hat is more than appropriate.

Trudeau used an '*' everytime he spoke. I took it as gbI was a nothing personality and never had anything to say..plus when he did speak, he whined. So now we get '*' w/ a roman helmet. I read imperialistic tendencies by way of the helmet.

I think he belonged to another group with a *similar* sounding name...it's late and I'm too tired to search around for it right now, but perhaps someone else has the correct info and source.

21. Let's see how many papers run this UNedited |
|
Many papers cut panels off of Doonesbury's best. Let's see about this one.

23. That's why his first two panels are "throwaways" |
|
If you check out the Sunday comics, most will have a "throwaway" section at the beginning of the comic. This is because different papers have different formats, and the artists are required (by contract) to allow the newspapers to print either comic (with or without the first panels).
This was one of Bill Watterson's complaints about the standard syndication contract, and I believe he finally got it removed from his.
