So, Bush faces a "grim choice"
From the NY Times:

Facing one of the grimmest choices of the Iraq war, President Bush and his senior national security and military advisers are expected to decide this weekend whether to order an invasion of Falluja, even if a battle there runs the risk of uprisings in the city and perhaps elsewhere around Iraq.

What you wanna bet he chooses the MOST grim option?

I'll bet the discussions at Camp David are not, "Should we bomb the hell out of this rat's nest?" They're probably more along the lines of, "If we kill all these terrorists, what's the backlash going to be?"

Just based on what I've read about Dubya's supposedly lofty Christian character, I know he's just itching to "punish" the "evil doers". Plus, he already has indicated in a speech that in Fallujah it's not a question of "innocence or guilt", because these terrorists have "no soul, no conscience". In other words, killing them is not a problem for little Georgie.

Whatever the decision, keep in mind that this is BUSH'S decision. He can't pawn this one off on anyone else.

1. The Bush family is noted for their pettiness.
Doesn't surprise me if that is the real answer.

3. petty and venal, indeed
Notice how Bush's face really "lights up" when he's talking about death? It's so damn sick. The whole family is a bunch of psycopaths but Junior is the least talented at hiding it, it's so obvious with him.

2. he wants to suck Iran into the war
so he'll have an excuse to use WMD's against Iraq.

When he says it's a "crusade" he means it.

He wants to kill all the muslims and convert those who aren't killed.

He's a good fundamentalist Christian "war president", you know.

I'm not exaggerating, I really think that's the plan here, folks.

6. All they have to do is wait!
the complete NYTimes article describes nobody going into the city and people, civilians, fleeing desparately. The longer they hold back, the better it will be. What, exactly, is the hurry?

BUT if the pols in DC are calling the shots, it'll be a SNAFU.

8. Here's what will happen:
It's the taking of Baghdad all over again. Marines will storm the town to little resistance. They'll knock some fucking statue down. Then the Iraqis, in their tenacious way, will kill 300 more Americans over the next 6 months.

The difference with the Iraqis is they're fighting for home.

14. All his previous 'decisions' now leave him with nothing
but a "grim" decision. He has boxed himself in with decisions that can only make his spot in history as one of a mass murderer. Assuming his family can't clean up future history.

11. What exactly is the point of "invading" Falluja?
I can't imagine what anyone could hope to accomplish by force in that situation. Do they think they can quell the unrest by... stomping on the population? Because that's sort of what got us into this mess in the first place.

Anyway- are they hoping to arrest a specific cleric or something? I assume there's some defined goal.

Or perhaps I shouldn't assume, considering this bunch has consistently made nothing but stupid ass moves to this point.

15. Think Guernica
A very wise person on the radio (it was either NPR or Pacifica) said that Falluja is Arabic for Guernica. There are plenty of historical parallels--there always are, if one knows much of anything--for this, and Lidice is another.

Meanwhile, the locals fight a very recognizable partisan campaign and strip away our co-belligerents, who lose their willingness one by one. That's how the Soviets took out Stalingrad: they first attacked the Romanians in the North, breaking through, and then broke through another group of them in the South, thus encircling the city. If we get locked into a house-to-house struggle, you can be certain that our staging areas, supply lines and other exposed support will be targeted.

What a mess.

I hate this administration in every way possible: not only are they ruthless, greedy and spiritually ugly, but they're incompetent and sloppy.

You'd think that conservatives--who worship the past and want to freeze time and progress--would at least know a little something about history.

Reinhard Heydrich was assassinated nearby, and the town was leveled, the men killed, and the women and children sent away. It was literally obliterated to make a statement.

19. "Do they think they can quell the unrest by... stomping on the population"
Yes, that's exactly what they think. Remember, these are the same people that brought us "shock and awe", the notion that if we display overwhelming violent force, the enemy will simply give up.

In BushWorld (as Maureen Dowd would say), violence is the most effective option, regardless of how ineffective it's been in the past.

I want him out. Now. Let's hold elections now and ride him out on a fucking rail. I am tired of endless war, stupidity, an idiot who seems to light up over death and destruction who is just an overgrown frat boy.

I knew he was bad news when I first lay eyes on him and even I did not think that things would get this bad. I have had it with him. His false piety, his hypocrisy, his lies and the lies of the media that supports him.

I will never forgive him or his family. Not for 9/11 and the exploitation of that disaster, for the stupid war in Iraq, for the bad economy, for being a swaggering egotist and a fool. For his arrogant smirk. I will never forgive him. NEVER!!!!!!

FUCKING ASSHOLE!!!!!!!!!

20. Oh, he's gonna do it, alright
Smirk faces no "choices" in his life. If challenged and someone else's ass is on the line, he'll send them in to fight, because he thinks he's a macho cowboy and he loves blood and guts (as long as he faces no personal danger).

The fucker will invade that city, kill thousands and blame it on "foreign invaders out to destabilize Iraq" and not a whiff of the stench of that irony will sink into that feeble, unimaginative cranium of his.

And this of course will further fan the flames of Iraqi nationalism and lead to more death and repression in the rest of the county.

The anticipation's probably killing him. Push a button and rain hellfire on a city on the other side of the world, boom! The no-talent backslapping gladhander is probably giddy with the perks of power right now. He'll need some paper towels and a pack of post-coital smokes when the time comes to greenlight the siege.

and it is propaganda calculated to make this ignorant stupid man look as though he is actually agonizing over these important decisions.

He murdered ten thousand people on his lies along with Cheney, Wolfowitz, Powell and others who were complicit in the lies he told so he could literally shock and awe and kill ten thousand non military men, women, old men, old women, babies, pregnant women, toddlers, and chilren with the thousands of bombs he aimed at them.

He is the grim reaper seeking innocent children.
