Have you ever taken in all that's going on and just said...WTF?
Edited on Sun Apr-25-04 01:38 AM by JanMichael
Yeah, it's the Absurd, I get that, but what the fuck set it into overdrive anyway??? War, war, and more war. Worse and eroding educational systems...Pre-planned failure of pension, and medical programs....And that's all OK?

My negative illumination of reality is clear, it SUCKS, thanks so very fucking much CNN/MSNBC/FOX/LOCALSHIT PAPER. I agree now, I've given up on the Blank Slate model of political theory! I no longer desire us to be the Borg (not that I ever really wanted that anyway...)! That said there's still suffering, there's still massive inequity. I don't WANT one single solution, that's just gonna end up with me sending people off to re-education camps and we all know that isn't a good thing. BUT...Now that we accept that some people, regardless of their efforts, will be left behind in the capitalistic sprint to the top, doesn't it reason that if we're empathetic shits, then we'll understand that and make programs that give them a decent life regardless of their lack of intellectual prowess?

When are the people that do the non-public living, breeding, breathing, working, retiring, helping and dying, going to get a shot at telling the hyper-dramatic politico fools to go fuck off?

This crosses political lines...

Yes, we're not all "equal" but who wants that anyway? All I want is Equitable, as in the right to equitable Housing, Education, Healthcare, and other assorted stuff, treatment for all.

3. No, I ask why I give a fuck.
I see so many of my peers (I'm in high school) walking around, blissfully uncaring as the political world passes them by.

I hate it when I hear people I know saying,"Dude, I hate the cops. Why do they go after us stoners?" the later saying, "Dude, voting is stupid. I don't know why people do it.

I want to violently shake them and say, "Because our fucking generation doesn't vote! If you voted, then politicians would want to legalize it! They'd want your vote, you fucking moron!"

But, then they would simply say that,"Dude, stop talking about politics. It's so stupid and lame."

For all the older DUer's out there: Was your generation as stupid as mine when it came to voting? Please, give me some hope.

4. My "Gen X" group is still in it's infancy. At least influence wise.
It's still up n the air how we'll really respond once challenged.

Most of my friends are Social Libertarians and Economic Socialists so who knows:shrug:

9. Yes, I'm 45 and We Were That Stupid
High school is like prison, people just want out. If you let your mind expand in college or wherever you go, you'll meet others who care to think.

Find those people like you've found them here. A lot of people will always prefer to be dumbfuks. Their reasons are many, from laziness to stupidity to bigotry to worse. Simply put; screw them!

One way I've found to discover why so many people are so stupid and brainwashed is to read about brainwashing and propaganda. It's amazing how much corporate and govt propaganda has affected the American mind over the last 100 years.

Check out a few books on those topics, you'll have a better understanding of why so many people are zombies.

10. I went to High School during the Reagan era
It was a Progressive school (no sports-but we had a Chess club, lol!) so that may have made a difference. Pretty much every one I knew there was involved in the elections, even if they weren't old enough to vote! I worked on a number of democratic campaigns with my mom, and even won a regional political cartoonists award when I was 16. Everyone was convinced that cowboy Ronny Raygun was going to get every last one of us nuked off the face of the planet, so it seemed really important that we got him out of office (we failed, obviously). The big difference then was our truly investigative journalist working for a free and diverse media, along which four TV channels and very few VCRs (there are far more distractions these days). I wish I had some suggestions that could help, but it's a very different world now. Send them relevant articles, keep talking, try your best to knock some awareness into their thick heads. It's worth the effort, even if it takes A LOT of effort!

15. YES!! Absolutely we were
Look around you though. There are other cliques in your school. There are the "rich" kids (there always is one group better off than the others, even in a slum), there are the brainiacs or whatever you call them these days, etc. Also look at the huge number of quiet kids, the ones that aren't popular or smart or into sports. They just silently move amongst the crowds, going their own way. They are often sad, wishing they were successful in the fashion High School kids measure it but they aren't so they simply exist.

Those people are the future voters of America. Reach out to them, they can be swayed. The rich kids are likely all Republicans; they have been forced to grow thick skins and adopt their parents points of view in order to justify their station. If you can find a thoughtful one in the bunch, give it your best shot otherwise leave em be. Seek out intelligence and social outcasts. They are the soil from which future election outcomes will spring.

5. I hear you...
...and I don't know what to do either. I've learned to live on very little. Practical things like cooking and clothes. Everything's seems to have spun out of control. I can hardly talk to people anymore. People with expensive educations are reading Harry Potter books and watching animated films. Idiots.
I live a lot in my mind. I try to keep it clean and tidy there; accepting no substitutes. True is true. False is false.
It's lonely sometimes...
I've read some 'French theory'...Debord's SOCIETY OF THE SPECTACLE,etc... life in 21st century America has become unreal.
I don't know what to do except keep living my life, such as it is, and see what happens next...

7. I always say WTF to life
I'm sonstantly thinking and reevalutating the worth of living in this fucked up world. It started in the 2000 election and there is more and more fucked up shit everyday.

There are so many things happening since Bush took office that either don't make sense or are incredibly hard to believe as a reality. It vexes me that I can't figure out why some people do the things they do. It defies logic and that bugs me.

Life, of course, is worth living regardless of how screwy the world gets but man, it's getting weird...

17. "LOCALSHIT PAPER"
I cancelled mine many months ago with all of the pre-war rah rahing going on. I call it the "news and fishwrap".

It is indeed depressing JM and I too say WTF daily. Everything is going along as planned by the Christian right and neo-cons. Soon we will be back to the gilded age with no middle class just the haves and have-nots. Unless of course they don't steal the next election.

Say hi to Stephanie for me! :)

Edited on Sun Apr-25-04 10:25 AM by JanMichael
Better yet that free rag that flots around every office pretending to be journalism, what's it called? Dipshit Times?

"Everything is going along as planned by the Christian right and neo-cons. Soon we will be back to the gilded age with no middle class just the haves and have-nots."

Remember that Margaret Atwood based her "A Handmaid's Tale" the very people that are guiding our country right this minute. It's almost like she wrote a blueprint for the neo-con/Theofascists.

That's such a loony marriage...The economic reich and the theocrapic right are due for a spilt, at least that wouldn't surprise me.

PS~ I told Steph you said "Hi".

it's just astounding how some people don't want to "talk politics" with this stuff going on.

Politics?? This is a revolution by the Christian Right!

22. Gut-wretching
You know what zeroes it in for me?
A 15 year old son. He is a terrific person and a clear-eyed sentient being, especially for his age. I'm just really happy to know him and i mean that apart from the fact I love him as my son.

I now am often sleepless thinking about the world he will inherit.
