I just shook the hand of President Bartlett, i.e, (Marrtin Sheen)....
We had quite a bit of excitement today when we learned that an episode of West Wing was to be filmed in our neighborhood, in Alexandria, VA. Apparently this house in my neighborhood has had several movie filmings of their house (Rules of Engagement) for one. It is a beautiful brick house, colonial in style. I went up the street to watch the filming of the West Wing episode. It was quite interesting as we the neighbors sat on the curbstones and watched the goings on in the house. We had the movie staff shouting out "rolling"... everybody be very quiet".....over and over again. It was quite tedious. I left around 12:00 a.m. because of the tediousness of the filiming. Martin Sheen (as President Bartlett) was inside the house of the supposed Admiral Fitzwallis??? We kept waiting for him (or someone) to come out of the house and have some dialogue. Never happened. Around 12:00 a.m. I walked down the street to my house, thinking that it was finished. However, around 1:15 a.m., I decided to walk back up the street to see if they were still filming and to see if I could meet Martin Sheen. When I arrived at the scene, the cop on the beat (who had been there all day) told me that Mr. Sheen hadn't yet come out of the house and was expected any minute. He said I should go up and introduce myself when he came out. Well, about that time Martin Sheen came out of the house, and I, fortified with a glass of Chardonnay, walked up to him with my hand outstretched and told him that I was a longtime fan of his. I also told him that I was a liberal with a capital L, as I knew he was also. He said, yes, absolutely, we must keep up the good fight! I asked him if he was going to the March on Abortion Rights in D.C. tomorrow (Sunday), and he said, unfortunately, no, he had to be back in L.A. because he had to work on Monday. He asked if I were going to go and I said yes! He told me to keep up the good fight. He asked me my name again, and said, it was so nice to meet you, "......." and we must keep up the fight! He was so presidential as President Bartlett! It seems so silly to say so, but it was true! He was much more presidential than what we have in the White House now!

1. Martin Sheen is a classy guy.
He sometimes attends the church where I go, and people reach across many pews to shake his hand during the "sign of peace." He is unassuming, warm, and friendly - a genuinely nice guy.
