We have to reach the non voter |
|
Too many Americans don't vote, and this year we need every vote we can get. Last night my stepson asked what he must do to register to vote, he and his younger brother have never voted in their life, but now they're both scared. Everyone they talk to is scared they are convinced that if the moron* is reselected it's all up. He and his friends are all registering, my youngest brother and his wife, both non voters are now registered and will be voting democratic this fall.
We need, now more than ever to get the first time and disinterested to the polls, with all the shenanigans with bbv only the sheer weight of numbers offers us hope.
Get out now and work on getting people to vote, I've got four, with three more probables, and I'm still working on more, to steal a line. "It's time to go to work".

First one must understand what led to their apathy and then be in a position to combat that apathetic refusal to participate. I live in California, so if I registered a thousand former non-voters I have really made no difference at all to the national election.California will probably go for Kerry, though it gets closer all the time.
The only way to appeal to the non-voters nationwide, and that is the key, is by a concerted effort from the Democratic Party and the candidates top reach out to them. Are they disgusted leftists, are they disappointed right wingers , are they just folks who can no longer stand the corruption, waste, catering to the corporate contributor....yup they are all of the above and more. What they should not be identified as is semiliterate slackers as they so often are on these pages..

little merit.
the only penalty has to be a small fine. This is hardly Fascism.
You may as well say laws that force you to wear a seat belt or drive on the correct side of the road are Fascist.
The one country that desperately requires compulsoray voting is the USA..if the most disadvantage people in US society had to vote there would never be a Republican Party ..
it's just another one of those 'freedoms' Americans fight for while allowing the genuine Fascists right wingers to wholesale loot their country and bomb others.

is for Kerry to unequivocally state that he will not institute a draft to meet manpower needs in Iraq. Young men, and young women even, are nervous about the possibility of a draft.

8. Truth! But Will the Truth WIN!? |
|
Look, if EVERY eligible voter would VOTE, there wouldn't be a SINGLE Repuke in office ANYWHERE. Our constituency WON'T VOTE!!!! Just the Hispanics ALONE would keep Hispanics in power forever, but THEY DON'T VOTE!!! So what ELSE is NEW????? As soon as Shrub sez, "Mi casa es su casa," it's all over.

10. The reason people don't vote... |
|
The reason people don't vote is that they see little difference between the two choices put before them. If the Democratic party wants to attract non-voters, it had better start making moves to show that they aren't the party that hate Bush, but love his policies. They have to start distancing themselves, which is something they have not done as of late.

12. Remember.... Bush only got about 24% of the VAP |
|
VAP = voting age population.
With about 45-50% of the VAP routinely boycotting (sic) elections... there's plenty of room to maneuver. I can only hope that the Democrats realize that the BEST way to get these people to the polls is to inspire them. Is Kerry up to the task? Maybe after he gets a personality implant from Dean.

13. Voter apathy is one of the reasons why I am so interested in |

election reform. I can totally relate to the people who don't vote because they feel like they have no power and that it doesn't matter anyway.

Yet so very often we see this key ingredient necesary for the overthrow of Bush and the corporate rule of our govt demeaned and diminished, called sheep, called irrelevent ,called ignorant etc.
It is to the benefit of the GOP to keep voter turnout light, traditionally they have worked very hard to do so. So it doubly disturbs me to see some here refuse to reach out to this enormous bloc, instead focussing upon only the few percent in the middle who may or may not be undecided.

He's 22 and he's never voted... all I have to do is tell him that the administration seems to be against porn and pot--his two livelihoods.

16. Understanding is MORE important than just registering Voters |
|
I have been out there for 9 months registering people. They do not know what is going on. The have no idea what the PNAC is, the Patriots Act.....this fascist nations and all of Ashcracks tricks..IF you don't spend the time to talk to them they will register and NOT vote. There is a 15% spread between young people registering and NOT voting. if they have a date the night before the election and have too much to drink....they may not vote! Encourage them to do vote by mail....We have a much better chance of this happening then them showing up at a polling place.I have 30 young people on my 'education' email list. they are getting all the info on 9-11,the lies about the invasion, P1 & P2,FEMA & Martial law.....by the time I finish they will have gotton over 100 emails. They say they are reading it. They say IF you reach ONE.....this is viril marketing...hopefully they will send it to a bunch of their freinds and so on.
