Chicago Tribune: The Working Poor
http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/chi-0404250538apr25,1,4720587.story?coll=chi-news-hed

History is clear: If nothing substantive is done about this...well, desperate people do desperate things.

On a related note: I am on Food Stamps. It's either that or starve. Just that simple. Yesterday, a woman started hassling me in the checkout line about me using food stamps to get a few things. Told me that the newspapers were full of jobs.No matter I live in an isolated area and have no car. No matter at all.

I am beginning to really hate this country. It's a snakepit.

1. Tell me about it.
Two full time jobs just to get by, and if I have the temerity to complain, people accuse me of "looking for a handout" from the government.

I don't want a handout, I simply want to be paid an amount commensurate with my needs for the labor I perform.

If a revolution happens, it'll be along economic lines.

Fuck this social darwinist shit; not everybody wants to be rich, not everybody wants to fuck over other people to get what they want, not everybody is an entrepeneur. Some people are artists, musicians, writers; creative people. Some people lack the skills to make scads of money. Should they have to starve to death for the sin of not being born with the ability to make loads of money? Fuck this "get rich or die" shit. I just want to exist, for crissakes....but working seventy-five hours a week is not much of an existence.

Someday, those upon the hill will pay for the crimes upon their heads.

2. Right on
Fuck this social darwinist shit; not everybody wants to be rich, not everybody wants to fuck over other people to get what they want, not everybody is an entrepeneur

But the kicker is, most of the rich aren't hardworking, talented, entrepeneurial or any of that. They inherited money. Whenever some idiot asks me why I want to penalize the "productive" with taxes, I ask them what did Paris Hilton ever produce?

3. I think that a lot of people get mad at the poor because they could be
poor at anytime given a turn of events.

4. I agree.
I hate it when I hear repukes going "there's plenty of jobs out there". Really? So those Two million jobs didn't vanish? God, I hate them. They say that anyone can make something of themselves in this country. Really? I'd like to see a mentally handicapped person start a business. They can work, right?

I also am beginning to hate this country, but not for the reasons you mentioned. I'm beginning to hate it for the bigotry against homosexuals.
