To all you doom and gloomers regarding election 2004! Take a look at this!

This is being reported as one of the biggest protest marches ever! If you don't think that folks in this Country are ready to turn out by the millions to dump Bush, YOU'RE WRONG!

This is very inspiring!

And it was inspiring to hear how much each and every speaker knew what was on the line come this November.

56. Welcome to DU, Crossroads!
Edited on Mon Apr-26-04 04:28 PM by mdmc
I am a gloom and doomer. While I think that it is great that so many people support abortion rights, I also think that this election will come down to "You are either with us, or you are with the terrorists." A vote against Bush is a vote against America.

Or, to put it another way, if you think that going into Iraq was a good thing, then you should vote for Bush.

NO DEMOCRAT would have invaded Iraq in 2003.

Abortion is the only winning issue that the Dems have, me thinks.

WELCOME TO DU. Sorry to be such a downer. :hi:

45. yeah!
i was planning on going, but other obligations kept me away.

still sad i missed it.

but i think the reality of the situation is the majority of americans are pro-choice, not that they neccessarily all agree with abortion, but beleive in the women's right to chose. I think the pro-lifers are in the minority, and i think its wrong of them to impose their will on the majority.

13. It really won't matter.
Diebold can cancel out those 1,150,000 votes with single button press. Bush will order, Diebold will obey and the SCOTUS will back it all up nice and neat.

Ah well. The fix is in. There's nothing we can do to stop it. I doubt, now, that the Bushes will EVER leave office.

Edited on Sun Apr-25-04 06:28 PM by FireHeart
How can you not? Blacks discouraged from voting in many states by trooper roadblocks (very convenient to have them primarly black voting areas), etc?

The rigged Florida denial of voting rights to people who weren't even convicted felons? Hell, I LIVE in Florida, and I heard venom and anger about this. But no one served a day in jail who was responsible for this.

Yes, I've lost my faith in the system. When SCOTUS handed the presidency to Bush, I was completely shocked. How else can I feel?

But I just don't know anymore. I feel like we are watching a nightmare that will never end. Your comparison with dice is hauntingly familiar with the Casinos of the 50's and 60's when the "Mob" ruled Las Vegas. Big winners were few and the House *always* comes out ahead, but people just kept flocking to them. Always hoping they would win, but the odds were way against them. I still hope, but my heart just isn't as strong as it used to be...

32. I have some faith in the system still...
...i live in a fairly GOP area, so I know I won't be seeing too many Democrats win elections. Still, elections are still held, and there are real primary contests between the more right wing and more moderate Republicans.

Yet, I tend to have some faith in the political system, nationally. To think that all elections are rigged or fixed is probably a bit too pessimistic for me.

That there some who still believe. After so many years of struggling and fighting, you sometimes get wore down to the point of complete apathy. You just don't care anymore. But keep the faith my friend. If you prove me wrong, I'll remember you in days ahead.

But sometimes, I just get so tired... :(

42. Political action doesn't have to come from voting
It can be grassroots community, industrial, regional and national organizing. Mass protests. Mass boycott. General strike. Armed uprising. The ballot box isn't our only option. In fact, right now voting is probably the weakest option. We must think long term and strategically, and be prepared to tough-it out for the long haul. That's what the right wing did and it's paying dividends for them. It's not about the next 4 years, it's about the next 30 years.

Two quotes from nasty men who understood both revolution and oppression (from both sides of the power balance):

"It's not who casts the votes that matters, it's who's counting the ballots"-- Josef Stalin

"Political power comes from the barrel of a gun"-- Mao Zedong

The only way BBV can really rig an election is if:

1) It is already very very close

and

Neither of these thing will be true.

24. I this the right to chose rally??
I'm asking because all the new coverage I've seen made me really depressed. It looked like a few hundred people milling around and they featured the anti-abortion people just as much. That's what I got on CNN, MSNBC, the local news, etc. I was getting so disturbed that the women of this country were taking for granted what a lot of people fought for. I glad they will be out voting against Bush. Unfortunately, no one in the country knows this was the biggest rally in US history. Or maybe I have the wrong picture---was this the anti-Nam rally of the 60's??? Sorry, but people just don't know this.

you should either stay up or set your VCR for 2 AM EDT to C-Span. They are re-running the whole thing. Our local news made much of the fact that this was a PRO-CHOICE rally, that it was the biggest, etc. The NY stations-CBS, NBC, ABC-all ran the rally as their top story this evening. Just a bit more than a few hundred people milling around.

>Political Axiom 103.02, Never piss off the Ladies.<

You've heard the old saying: If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

If 1.1 million women took the time and their money to get themselves to Washington to display how utterly unhappy they are with * and his policies against women, one must think that for every one female on the Mall this afternoon, there were probably 10 like me who couldn't be there for a variety of reasons, but feels the exact same way.

If these 10 million women each round up ten of their friends, who are also equally sick at heart about what's going on, and convince them to vote for John Kerry on November 2nd (hell, give 'em a ride to the polls, or have an absentee-filling-out party,) WE WILL WIN.

39. Hi Julie, LTNS, I just hope your comments hold true for this Nov
and from what I see, there is no reason to doubt it. The Military Industrial Complex teaming up with the Far Right Fundies have distorted America into the present mess we see today. The Pub PsyOps have taken their toll in capturing hearts and minds of our innocent sheep turning them into Pub Clones. But they go to Far with their selfish agenda. Greed, Arrogance, Ego, Myopia, Selfishness etc, has been exposed and it bodes ill for our beloved Nation.

We could be so far down the road to creating a Heaven on Earth its pathetic. But no, we squander our Resources, Blood, and Wealth on missions of dubious distinction.

What say you if I ask for any POSITIVE RESULTS from this administration? Cause thus far, I see nothing but doom and gloom, fear, debts, and a mishandling of the future for our children.
Some Leader we got, eh? Its a Pub Scam gone wild.

51. True, but remember the power of the herd
This is why the GOP-controlled media rigs the polls to make it look as though bush* is our beloved national hero, because nobody wants to be in the minority, nobody wants to side with the losing team. An event like yesterday's has a huge positive effect, because people are looking at that turnout and thinking, "Wow, there are other people in this country that think like me, I'm not a loser freak after all." That is empowering for a lot of people who are on the fence, or confused, or unmotivated, or in other ways not in our column at all.

I'm not ready to accept that Sunday's march represents the death knell of the Bush administration, but I do take hope in the number of people involved in the number of massive demonstrations against various actions by this particular group of charletans, crooks and nutcakes. Translating that into electoral and governmental influence is the challenge.

There were women AND men, young and old, and even some "Republicans for Choice". We marched past the White House and it was quite thrilling to feel the anti-bush energy.

Now we gotta translate it to the voting booths.

My favorite hand-drawn signs: "I'll give up my rights when Bush gets pregnant", "One bush between my legs is enough" (sorry, vulgar but darn funny), "Former fetus for choice".
