TALTY: I CANNOT Do This Alone | A Media Action Challenge

My premise :

We cannot be utterly assured of success in November if the corporate media is not aggressively challenged. A million+ activists can denounce Bush in Washington, DC but the corporate media will marginalize history for a meaningless angle on the Michael Jackson story.

We must TRY to take ‘on’ the media with direct action.
We must TRY to make corporate media complicity in hiding/promoting the lies of BushCo a national story.

And, I think, we can.

The Action(s):

Most of the morning ‘news’ shows that broadcast from NYC include ‘live’ camera segments.

It would not be difficult to ‘salt’ these audiences and/or arrange ‘walk-throughs’ with activists displaying “YOU ARE BEING LIED TO” signage/t-shirts, etc.

Developing a set of ‘LIES’ talking points for anyone getting air-time would be a simple thing.

Developing teams so that someone is monitoring each show while remaining in cell-phone contact with an ‘on-site’ team to maximize air-time would be a simple thing.

Perhaps there are opportunities for similar actions in other news markets.

Reality Check :

I KNOW people are busy with other issues, local contests, etc.

BUT, shattering the default ‘credibility’ of corporate news is essential if the TRUTH will be broadcast again.

Am I Totally NUTS?

It seems to me that we need to reach the swings and those on the right that will NOT be happy to learn they’ve been LIED to...

I think we need to make the MEDIA the STORY if we're going to have a chance to do that.

And, hell, the weather is nice for a morning midtown event or 50....

I need some NYC area folk (for starters) to make this happen...

You can always tape 'morning sedition' and maybe you'll hear yourself...

I'd love to be there, but I live thousands of miles from NY. Nevertheless, I can't think of anything more effective. The past few days have been very difficult for me as I winess what the media is doing to Kerry. And because I remember what they did to Gore in 2000, I am getting scared. You're right...we need to do something different.

I actually did this in november 2001 on that show "Fox n' Friends" - just walked back and forth occasionally with a big "LIES" sign.

Damn, I totally forgot about that... I should dig up the tape and put it online...

if I remember correctly, you get a good glimpse at it once before they cut away and repositioned one of the cameras...

there was a delay, which kinda fucked up my attempts to have a friend watching tv let me know when I was in the shot via cell phone.

a coordinated attempt sounds splendid. I'm in!

Come to think of it, I'm surprised more people haven't fucked with them in this fashion. At most you get some guy jumping up and down like an idiot, or some geek waving some sports-related item.

It would be amusing to start subtle, a group of people walking one by one by the windows, every minute or two... it would be harder for them to switch cameras back and forth... and then culminate in having one person in each window, so no matter what morning jackass they cut to, there's a little unlicensed closed captioning for each one.

By the time they send out a rentacop, the damage is done.

It's TIME! The time is NOW!! We need to get the media on the run if they're going to keep trying to shove their shit down our throats!

I'm sick of it all. It's time to harrangue and harrass EVERY news media pundit, EVERY news editor, and protest EVERY media outlet until they start telling the truth.

One thing I've learned on DU these past few years: The congresscritters get their news from the Newspapers (!) and the News Networks! Stupid as that may sound, that's what they get. They don't have "researchers" like we do here. They no longer have the benefit of investigative reporters! They've all been bought or fired.

Congresscritters VOTE (!) on stuff, because they hear from the "news" that that's the way everyone "believes". BULLSHIT!!!!! Fux news isn't the way "it is"!

We need MILLIONS of us -- from every progressive, liberal, and free-thinking web site in the universe -- to come together and kick some media butt. We're hardly even getting the proper publicity for the BBV issue, because the voting machine guys are in bed with the media guys.

BBV is my BIGGEST issue. The media is impeding the spread of the news about that issue. (As well as a hundred other issues that need an airing.) They are INTERFERING in the truth of our Democracy, and the jig is up!

Let's march on the media companies. Let's e-mail them until they wish they didn't have to get out of bed in the morning. And let's take the fight to them. They've been asking for it!

I'm in L.A., nostamj, so I can't physically go there, but you are SO correct about targeting the morning shows - on NBC, ABC, and CBS. MORE people watch "The Today Show" and "Good Morning America" in one week than watch Pox tv in a year. The "big three" networks are still the big-audience way to go. Cable just doesn't have the penetration. It's growing, but it is NOT there yet.
