I just bought it. I can host it until it starts costing me for bandwidth. What do you guys want to do with it? I want to start an email list to make phone calls on specific issues, like the March figures today. Other than that, I don't know.

Lawyers, any legal concerns I need to consider?

Let's get some ideas!!!!

5. Thanks for doing this.
Can you hook up with pay pal to get contributions if/when you need it? Trying to do something about media coverage is the biggest thing we can do. Have you let the Kerry campaign know?

6. We need to keep track of sponsors
So there needs to be a section for that because it is very important I believe.

Count me in. Definitely.

I am pissed off.

7. Good one. I'm not a lawyer but I'm very sure you have no legal worries...
Just remember truth is an absolute defense against libel or slander.

Give 'em hell, I'll assist in any way possible.

8. Examples of their blatant lies and WH collusion
might be helpful for the non-DUers who stumble on the site.

The Letterman fiasco, for example, was over the top in its blatancy....

Seems like every day there's a new lie or intentional bias, especiallty when Wolfie or Woodruff are involved.

9. Include a CNN media awareness action plan.
This is really a rally to protest CNN at it's source.

right outside their window in the morning.

Go for it! I'm in LA, so I'm of little help.

11. I'd do a few things:
1) "Fun Facts About the CNN CelebCorps" -- pages for each of the CNN celebrity anchors/reporters with every nasty fact you can track down about them (example: their "political analyst" Bill Schneider is a fellow of the right-wing American Enterprise Institute). Don't forget political contributions, embarrassing film cameos, divorces, and bad photos from their early celeb days.

2) The CNN Memory Hole" -- on a few occasions, CNN has CENSORED its online transcripts. One example is here.

3) "Howie Whore Watch" -- examples of Howard Kurtz' conflicts of interest. You should easily find enough to call for his firing from CNN's media review show "Reprehensible Sources."

4) "Great Moments in CNN History" -- for example, Ben Stein giving Arianna Huffington the middle digit ("Win Ben Stein's Finger").

Go wild! Be FUNNY and nasty. Remember: snarkiness is its own reward!

12. Documenting Errors
This one would be a bit difficult, and it would require some sort of long-term commitment to make it work. But, I thought I'd suggest it anyway. Maybe the basic idea could be worked into something else.

If there's a university or two somewhere near you, try to find out who the journalism/history/political science professors are that are sympathetic to progressives. Then contact them about what you're trying to do.

I suggest this because of a professor I had for E. European history. For one of our projects, he allowed the option of reviewing CNN for errors in its presentation of historical background elements. This was during the crisis in Bosnia, and the break-up of Yugoslavia was one of the things we were covering. He gave those who chose to do this a month to finish the analysis, but said those who paid attention wouldn't need that long. I chose this option and based my entire paper on a week's worth of broadcasts, and I had way too many examples for the length of the paper.

Anyway, if you could find a sympathetic professor, s/he might be willing to suggest some kind of project like this for the students, and a reward could be having the article produced displayed on your website.

17. FYI - Did you see this?
http://www.nydailynews.com/04-25-2004/news/story/187150p-162073c.html

4 years later, nation still split
Half the country loves Dubya, half the country can't stand him
By HELEN KENNEDY
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

The Gallup poll found 91% of Republicans approve of the job Bush is doing, while only 17% of Democrats agree - the largest gap since Gallup began gauging job approval in 1948.

"This remains a country that is almost evenly divided politically - yet further apart than ever in its political values," a Pew Research Center survey of historical opinion polls concluded.

Pollster Scott Rasmussen said the explosion of media options in the last decade has helped polarize opinion. Voters seek out compatible news outlets online and on cable - right-wingers to Fox, liberals to CNN.

"We don't listen to opposing views anymore," he said.

That makes for a political chasm that seems unbridgeable.

21. Yeah, it's a great idea. Here's what I want to see happen:
Edited on Mon Apr-26-04 10:59 AM by maggrwaggr
Organize a list of everybody who feels the way we do. A petition, basically. The more the better.

Maybe we should have a goal. 500,000 people? A million? Do it like a fund drive, only we're looking for signatures instead of dollars.

And then take it to CNN's sponsors. And competitors.

And make a BIG DEAL out of it.

Hopefully their competitors might actually want to make it known.

And hopefully their sponsors will take note.

And in the meantime, keep slamming them every day.

Sorry it took me so long to respond, I was working all weekend.
