I feel ashamed of Colorado right now. |
|
Not only do we have Colorado Springs, many stupid congress people and a senator who made a dumb remark about the Coors twins. We have an idiot governor, a senate candidate who would rather be compared to the KKK than John Kerry, and now a holy roller that pulled a comic strip because of its war remarks. Please. how did we get stuck with all these idiots?

Because our neighbors voted for them. They think only in black and white. They have little education. They are selfish and drive like they own the road.
BTW, which holy roller are you talking about?

in some kind of serial sexual harassment stink, but the papers haven't picked up on it?
Know what you mean about Colorado Springs--to add to its many charms, my insane in-laws live there...
It's disheartening to see what's happened to Colorado, including Boulder, where I used to live. It's become new-age yuppie hell with a vengeance. Guess moving to Nova Scotia in 1990 wasn't such a dumb move after all...

that the swing to the right has been fueled by people moving here in the last 10 years. Our radical conservatism isn't even home grown.

9. Whats wrong w/Colo Springs? |
|
Edited on Sun Apr-25-04 11:20 PM by Eccho
You can hardly expect the place with Ft. Carson and Norad to be loaded with liberals. Roy Romer(D) was the guy that made the state boom, and it wasn't that long ago. With the population deeply infused with Californians, it is moving to the left a lot more than it was 10-20 years ago. There are just a lot of hold overs. Don't get discouraged.

10. Colorado Springs is the home |

of Focus on the Family, and has become one of the country's major hubs of extreme fundamentalist Christianity.
This is a relatively recent development and makes it a far bigger center of RW power than it was simply under the influence of Ft. Carson and NORAD.

They had the amendment that nullified the housing fairness laws in Aspen and another city (can't remember which) that said that the owners couldn't discriminate between gays or any minorities. Focus introduced an amendment that was so confusing that if you against the law then you had to vote yes, and vice versa. And damned if the thing didn't pass. Well, once people realized they had been swindeled, then the libs and gays of Colo Spgs and other cities united (I personally worked on some fundraisers) and got the crazy law overturned.
I gather from reading some of the posts that the Gazette Telegraph has done what it has many times in the past, censored libral voices by cutting out a comic or columnist, this isn't new. They are owned by the right and have been for a long time. (I worked there briefly 12 years ago). Don't worry about that. There is a wonderful libral paper called the Independant in Colo Spgs that carries everything including Boondocks. Believe me, that city has a libral voice, but it is just mixed in with the far right in a way most cities aren't.

22. and i CHOSE to live in hell! |
|
hey, ANYBODY can live in a liveral paradise and feel good, fact is somebody's gotta stick it out in the neocon hellholes! it does no good to have even more "dems" in democratic areas. i say "dems" because i am an independant, but there is only one choice this year, so now i am a dem for the time being, don't hate me if i forgot the big D.
yup, i live in the springs, never meant to stay as long as i did, just too lazy to move, and got a decent job, which means a lot.
you are correct on your assesment of this town, and the papers, but the independant only carries a watered down version of the boondocks, one strip a week...
the beauty of living in such a conserative military area is the acces we get to certain people, we have a visit by * himself coming in june, so he can "finally" deliver a commencement speech at the air force academy, IIRC its normally done by the president early in his term, but he's passed up his last chance or two, finally important enough in an election year.
lots of conserative money in this town, but the people i actually see on a daily basis are poor military grunts and their families. i really feel sorry for them.

The state has contracts to provide water to CA, NV, etc. and will be in serious financial and environmental trouble if the drought goes on for two or three more years.

didnt expect it from colorado. i listened to your rep with gay marriage and the sf mayor and she was bad, and what is this with the comment with coor twins. i was so hot when i saw one of the commercials, the one in the winter, and the girl crawling on the ground, oh i was pissed there for my little boys to watch with father during football. went into a big ole to do with the coors company, i am sure i wasnt the only one. will never see coor the same. and then for them to have the gall to tell me what family values are
btw, living in texas, i cant say a lot here, just empathy your way

But is becoming decidedly less beautiful. Housing developments being built everywhere you look. The Repugs are destroying the state. I hate what out state has become.
Everytime I hear something on the news about some crazy Coloradan censoring liberals or some dumbass minister putting up a stupid sign on his church denouncing Jews, I feel embarrassed to live here. I don't want to be associated with these people.

17. Not that we (CO) haven't had our homegrown conservative idiots... |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-26-04 12:19 AM by hlthe2b
but in all fairness, the sharp turn rightward has come with the in-migration of tons of Orange County (S. Cali) Pugs as well as a disproportionate share of TX fundies... CO Springs is sort of a special case, having always had its military community and the unfortunate magnet for all the RW XIAN groups...
However our homegrown conservatives (especially on the western slope) are far more libertarian than rebublican, but in recent years the PuGS have managed to convince them that they were more in keeping with libertarian values than the Dems... Something we can definitely work on, given the erosion of state's rights under the Bushies and the attack on civil liberties.... Food for thought, hmm?

same situation for Columbine - they voted for a sheriff who screwed up and covered up the investigation big time.
You get what you pay for - tax wise.
