AFP: Abortion rights march draws 1.1 million in US: organizers
Finally! A headline that isn't trying to water it down.

I know this isn't exactly news now, and there are several threads about it. I just thought it's be nice to highlight an article that didn't trying to make it seem like less than it was.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - More than 1.1 million people from across the United States and dozens of other countries took part in what organizers said was the largest ever women's rights protest on abortion, aimed at influencing politicians ahead of the November 2 presidential vote.

Older women in their Sunday best mingled with college students in T-shirts in a massive demonstration sparked largely by what they see as President George W. Bush (news - web sites)'s efforts to chip away at a women's right to an abortion.

4. They still only credit the number to the organizers
Which of course is wildly suspect. As it would be for ANY group.

5. Here's a verifiable number: 75,000
"Women's rights activists from dozens of other countries also joined the protest, citing the ripple effect of US policies overseas -- especially the so-called "gag rule" that withholds US aid dollars from groups providing access to or counseling about abortion. They blame the restriction for the deaths of 75,000 women who receive unsafe abortions annually.

7. let's see: how many women do you think have died since
bush reinstated the "gag rule?" i'd say it's a conservative number.
and it's based on the organizer's information...just like the crowd estimate. if you want to verify it, i am sure you can.

bottom line: abortion saves viable, adult female lives. of course that little detail is oif no concern to bush, inc & it's supporters on this issue.

8. I merely asked for a cite
I am not an abortion expert and simply asked you to cite the number quoted.

I didn't go out of my way to verify the crowd. It was in today's Post -- direct from the police.

As for the rest, I am and remain pro-Choice. I also support accurate use of facts. The two are not mutually exclusive.

9. pro-choice...WOW!
:D as to the number, it's really not rocket science. i don't have time to track down a reference right now, but as i said, i think it's a conservative estimate, given almost 4 years of the gag rule.
