Yesterday marked a cross-roads |
|
Okay, some of you will say I am just wishful thinking, but please hear me out.
As I was watching the C-Span coverage of the March for Women's Rights yesterday, I had a Deja Vu momement. August 1997, there was another march in Washington. It was one sponsored by a very different group - the Promise Keepers. I watched that coverage too. I remember telling my husband that day that it marked the beginning of a political turning point. People on the left were being portrayed by the media as almost fanatics in opposition to this march. The press under-reported the turn out of this men's Christian march. The speakers at that rally did a good job of showing that they were just normal people wanting to bring men together. The left was left looking mean spirited. Three years later, * took office.
Yesterday there was another March on Washington. This march was villified by the right. The numbers were under reported by the press. Listen to Christian radio over the next few days, and you will hear the hate being spewed forth. The rhetoric will grow increasingly hate-filled. I would not be surprised to even see violence against doctors who perform aboritions and women who seek aboritions increase dramatically in the weeks to come. The left has unified. Yesterday marked a turning point. The left has awakened! Yesterday showed what can happen when we drop our petty differences and unite for a cause. We are a force to be reckoned with.
We let our guard down in 2000. We had grown complacent after 8 years of having our man in the White House. We had forgotten how important it is for us to stand united. I really think very few of us thought * even stood a chance. This let some of our numbers feel confident enough to register a protest vote for Nader.
I believe it was Japanese Admiral Yomomoto who proclaimed after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, "I fear we have awakened the sleeping giant." 3.5 years of * and his administration's lies has awakened the sleeping giant called the Democratic party. This is going to be a VERY different election than one we have seen in many years. The Nader numbers will dwindle as we grow increasingly united to defeat this corporate regime. The press is slowly (SLOWLY) waking up as well. I watched the awards on FSTV yesterday for the most censored news stories. Some of those stories will start to come to light. They will be breaking little by little. As they do, the tactics of this administration will grow more and more desperate, but they will be transparent.
There will even be a good number of Christian voters who supported Bush who will decide to stay home based on what they will see in regards to Iraq. They won't change sides, but they will vote with their absence from the polls.
The tide will begin to turn this week. Overly optimistic - Maybe, but I just have a gut feeling about this.

1. I hope you're right...err, left...oh it's all so confusing |
|
Anyway, I hope you are correct. Surrounded by freeper types in the midst of the vast wilderness of OK (Oklahoma, Oklahoma ... lookie there, I said it twice) it often seems like there is little hope.

5. I can imagine the emotions (Wish I could have been there) |

and am sure that all present will heed Hilary's call... (sic)" If we all don't vote, we wasted each other's time." Let's take that one step further. We should all register as many Dems as possible.

There's no room for apathy. I was talking to a couple of ladies who work in our school cafeteria today. Neither are registered to vote. One said, "What difference does it make - they're all alike." Well, she has an 18 year old son. I started talking about the draft. Didn't quite convince her, but I am not giving up on her yet. We have to just be out there working our asses off, because this is the most important election of our lives (to quote Kerry). Am I pissed? you betcha! I am not standing for this bullshit any more. I have always been politically active, but I've reached new levels of obsession with this one.
