The emphasis seemed to be again that Bush is a "determined, focused president."...:puke:....Woodward also said (I've heard him say this before) that when Tenet showed Bush his evidence of the WMDs, Bush said "nice try, but Joe public won't buy it."....Doesn't this bring to mind Clarke's statement that Bush was demanding everyone bring him some "evidence" so he could go to war?....What I'm getting at is Woodward must have interviewed Clarke and O'Neill while they were there too and they would both have told him how anxious Bush was for the war....How come Woodward never mentions anything about these two guys?...Is it because they would detract from his portrait of Bush as a more thoughtful, reasonable person.?.....Just wondering????
edit...I mean Woodward has mentioned every other person he interviewed. Why not these two?

determined lie to us about it,
determined raid the Treasury to pay for it,
and perhaps even allow a terrorist attack on US soil to justify it.

3. Scienter
Scienter means "knowingly." To prove intentional civil fraud, you have to show, among other things, scienter. Bush's response to Tenet about the unconvincing nature of the evidence on Iraq suggests that Bush had scienter. Tenet's evidence did not convince Bush. Bush knew that it wasn't even good enough to convince Joe Public. Yet he knowingly used this worthless "evidence" to convince Congress and the American people to believe that war was necessary and to agree to go to war. As a result, we went to war and we have, as a nation, suffered terribly as a result.

In simple English, Woodward's book confirms: Bush lied. Our soldiers died.

4. Joe Klein has a great piece in Time about this.
" According to Woodward, the President isn't impressed with the evidence- but this doesn't seem to cause him a moment of doubt about his mission to rid the world of Dr. Evil. No, he's concerned about the looming sales job."

This Klein piece is not on line yet.
