I have a funny story about "Air Am."
Edited on Mon Apr-26-04 03:51 PM by KoKo01
I was really excited hearing that Chapel Hill Radio station was going to carry some of the "AA" segments and I'd had alot of problems with "streaming" it since I'm on Dial Up.

I couldn't pick up the station in Chapel Hill on any of current radios including short wave and boombox and didn't want to go the antenna route just yet, so I pulled out an old radio from a box in the attic. Plugged it in, and YESSSS I could receive "AA" A little static, but I could hear Franken. A couple of days went by before I could tune in again, but the next time I turned to the station, I hear Rush Limbaugh! It was Rush on the "AA" Station and I (being a DU tinfoilhatter) had this awful moment of terror. I thought: Geezus Crist! The RWingers managed to get "AA" thrown off the air in one of the most liberal Towns in all of NC!

I'm furious, ranting, raving and I turned it off. I didn't see anything on DU about it, and was going to post, but thought I'd better go try again before I started raving about Rush taking over Chapel Hill.

I just now went up and tuned back in on the dial, and the first thing I heard was Rush talking about the Women's March in Washington and a caller came on and was just thrilled about the turnout and said "Ed, can't tell you how thrilled we are to have a "liberal on the airwaves."

I'm thinking :wtf: is going on here. Rush is talking about the Womens March and a caller says she's so glad there's a "liberal" on the radio? I listened a while longer and finally it was revealed that this was "Ed Schultz." I've seen his name posted on DU, but had no idea he was a "liberal" radio jock. :D

Who is Ed Schultz and why does he sound exactly like Limbaugh? It's creepy. I had a hard time listening thinking he would turn into "Really Rush" at any moment and jump out of the radio.

I don't know how long he's been heard here in NC because I gave up on our radio long ago with too much religious stuff and only listened to music. When did he get on the radio and who is he? Is he popular? And WHY does he sound just like RUSH! Is it all an act?

1. Here's a link to his site
First time I heard him, I thought he sounded like Rush too. He's out of Fargo, ND.

Here's the link

2. From what they told me...
WCHL is only airing th Al Franken show and the Janeane Garafolo show from AA. It's a pretty small AM station, but I was excited about it. Are you right in Chapel Hill? If not, that's probably why you can't get it.

6. In Raleigh. One would think the signal would be stronger, but it isn't.
in my "newer radio." Interesting that my old radio from the 80's picked up the signal, isn't it?

3. LOL...this could work to our advantage
Maybe the confusion will convert a few Rush listeners? I wonder how long they'd listen & agree before they realized that it wasn't Rush? Hee hee.

We get Ed's show in Portland & I'm very impressed. He fills a gap that the AA network has in their programming (Shultz is syndicated by someone else). He's an ex-conservative, gun owner & sports nut - he's plain spoken and - unlike Randi or Al - can really work to educate the mainstream. Nobody can really marginalize him as a wacko - even though his voice is like Rush.

4. Know what you mean about picking up stations
My $500 stereo: little more than static and hissing for all but the strongest stations.

My $11 clock radio: almost perfect reception.
